What Fed Ex did to a really expensive model.

Some of you might know Boyd over at Trekworks. If you don't he is a pro model builder that builds for clients. Recently he was commissioned to build the 350 scale? Space Battleship Yamoto. This kit by it's self costs over $500. Needless to say he was pretty proud of it when he got it all done...

    Paint purchase dilema

I have a few dollars I am going to spend on paint. It always seems like no matter how much paint I get, I never have that right color I need. So I am going to purchase a full line of either of 2 brands. Bare with me while I hash this out. I can buy the full line of Vellejo Air. 111 in all. I...

    Mad Max V8 Interceptor

I'm sure most of you have your favorite TV/Movie car. For me it's the last of the V8 Interceptors. I will be building the Road Warrior version of this car from Aoshima. This is my first car kit and I have never attempted weathering of this magnitude. So any advice along the way is more then...

    T2 Aerial Hunter Killer

This is a 1:32 Pegasus kit based on Hollywood Collectibles collectors statue of the same size. It even has the same skull and debris base. I have all the sub assembles completed and I am working on removing seam lines. I will use a gloss black base coat and shoot it with Alclad II Chrome. From...

    Enterprise NCC-1701-C

Just started this kit today. Took all of an hour to assemble all the sub assemblies. No gaps anywhere. What a great kit ! The challenge will be painting it. It has tons of detail. It's pretty nice. With the announcement of the re release of the 1:1400 Enterprise E I found myself in an Enterprise...

Vellejo paint rack for under $10

Three sheets of foam board from Walmart, a little glue gun action and presto. A paint rack more then sturdy enough for my vellejo paints.

    Pre shading with a marker.

I have read here and there people asking if using a Sharpie for pre shading was a good idea. The universal consensus is that it's a very bad idea. Well this morning I had an eureka moment. Why not use an acrylic paint marker. Off to the hobby store I went. Well let me tell you, it works like a...

    Pre shading with metalizer

Can I pre shade with metalizer when using Alclad II? You always see some sort of pre shading used on the stainless steel part near the exhaust nozzles but I can't locate any instruction on it. Here is what I am referring to. free photo upload

    F15-C Aggressor

Today I finally got every thing in for my next, and probably hardest, project. The F-15C with the "Splinter" paint scheme. The uber detailed ejection seat. The paint masks. Which I have never painted with. So this should be fun. Yikes And of course the 65th Aggressor squadron decals...

    B-52H

This is the new Minicraft 1/144 B-52H that is currently in service. This is a reissue with the added parts to make it the modern variant. It still comes with the old armaments that are no longer in service. It is however, a decent kit for the most part. There is no cockpit detail, not that you...

    65th Aggressor Squadron decals?

I am going to be building a F-15 with the "splinter" paint scheme. Does anyone know where I can get the 65th Aggressor Squadron decals from? They were made by after burner. Here is the page that shows the sheets. http://www.hyperscale.com/2012/reviews/decals/afterburner48081reviewrk_1.htm

What air brushes are you using?

So I'm curious what everyone uses. I noticed from watching Chen's video's, he has several. So it got me wondering why so many? Anyway, I have 2. I have my Badger Patriot 105 that uses a medium fine needle. I'm amazed what I can push through it with out clogging it. But at first I was using way...

    Moebius Iron Man Mark VI

This is my first time building anything like this, so I thought I'd give it a go. They rate this kit as a Level 3. I think it's a low 2. It went together easy. Just a little seam sanding. These are just a few pics of him primed. Get a good look, because this is the last time you see him in this...

    Enamel air brushing questions

This kit I'm working on will be mostly painted in Humbrol enamel paint. First I assume I thin it with lacquer thinner. But do I need to take any special steps in cleaning my air brush? I normally just use Windex.

    1:72 ICM Mig 25PD

Got a decent start on it. This plane must have been a monster in real life 'cause the 72 scale is HUGE! Anyway, this is a putty and sand job start to finish. The mated surfaces are very odd and there is a lot of gapage. There is no way to avoid sanding off a lot of raised panel lines. I hate that.

Time to get back into the plane building business

I've been in my Star Trek phase for the last several weeks. And with one of them on hold due to a defective part, I thought I'd get back to my jets for awhile. My first Mig ;D

    Enterprise NCC-1701 B

Yesterday I started work on the Enterprise B. So far I am really not impressed with the quality of this kit. Lots of gap filling and ....low and behold ... a defective part. Joy. Oh and my decals from Don's Light and Magic that I ordered 10 days ago has yet to show up. Not that I need them right...

    Primer primer everywhere

So I have a bit of an obsession on Primer. To me Tamiya Fine Surface primer is the standard. But at around $10 for a 6oz can, that's a bit too expensive. Next is Krylon primer. Not bad but it's pretty rough and requires a lot of sanding and will cover fine detail. $5 for 12 oz can. Krylon...

    1:1000 Enterprise A

Just started it today. Right now I'm just working on the saucer and pylons. I used Mr. Surfacer 1200 as a primer and Vallejo base white as my base coat. Like it so far. Mr. Surfacer 1200 seems to work well as a primer. You just got to clean the crap out of your air brush when your done.
