Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers--Finished

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

I would expect problems like you are having with the canopies on an older kit. But not on something this new. Good update! I might have to switch the color of my Aves. With that blue color, it looks like it is easier to see what you are doing when filling a seam.

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

Good luck with the canopies ! Pat !

I got some of that Blue tint AVES and .... although it is the same....
I don't use it as much !!! its just me !

Take your time with the Vipers.. !!! it should turn out !!! if in doubt ? push away and come back to them when you feel better !!!

Nothing worst than working on a model while frustrated !

Later !

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

Thanks, guys.
I have no fear on the build. I can handle the canopies.
And, Grendels? I agree on the blue Aves. I like the contrast, too

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

nicely coming along Quaralane, except the canopies.

Just going back to the upper engine nacelle that you filled with Aves - is there enough room to throw in some scatchbuilding frame work and techno bits and peices, just to busy up there area ?

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

Not much point in busying it up, CL. Most of that area is concealed by the upper engine.
There also isn't really a lot of room. the total area is maybe 3/8" across by about 1/2"-5/8" long by 1/8" deep

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

;D Hey Q thats why i always say scratch-building
is good cross training for kits, the more you have to
struggle scratch-building the easier it makes for
when you sit down to a mass produced offering! LOL

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

Thanks, Jamaica.
I have a couple of scratch projects in mind. Just haven't felt like tackling them yet

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

All right. Time for a new update.

First off, I want to thank Phase171 over at Youtube for pointing out my issue with the canopies.
The problem came from how I poured in my cockpits.
The kit canopies are actually supposed to be inserted from INSIDE the fuselage. THIS is where the problem came in for me.
I made it impossible to do that when I poured the resin for my cockpits.

Now, on to the actual progress:

Got the primer on:

Put a coat of Testors Graphite Dust on the main engine assemblies

Got the red and gold detail paint sections going on the main hulls and the engin cowling assemblies

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

That canopy issue is just nuts. Why would they have you insert in from the inside. You would think fragile things go on last! Could not tell what the base color was for the Vipers?

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

The canopy issue is crazy. But on second thought, I do attach them first and then mask, paint. In that order, so for me it wouldn't be a problem. Just different.

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

That's looking great, Q. I like the trick with the electrical tape for masking.

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

Coming along great Q - I like the e-tape trick too. Clever.

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

Hey Q,

How are you going to fix the canopy issue? If they are designed to fit inside won't they be too small to sit on the railings?

That's a bummer man. Live and learn. :)

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

Thanks for the comments, guys.
And, yep, electrical tape has its uses in masking

@ShutterAce,
They're big enough that I can trim them to fit from the outside.

@noc5659,
The "base color" is Kyrlon grey primer

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

lookin nice Q! I imagine if not quickly removed the electrical tape will get real gummy if it was hot in the room.

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

Thanks, PPP and Igard.

@punkpigpen,
If it's too hot, I won't try the electrical tape on a model for that

Re: Solaria Flight-Twin Moebius Mk 7 Vipers

Nice work as always, Q. The color scheme of these birds looks pretty sweet :)
