Thin wire would work for the bars on the eyes, too. 24 or 26 gauge - something nice and thin. Also, now that the Christmas stuff is showing up in stores, ornament hooks are usually very thin wire, too.
The other option is to wet sand. Keep a small bowl of water and paper towels at your work bench and dip your sandpaper/sanding sticks/files and/or your parts in the water every now and then. The water absorbs the sanding dust AND keeps your sandpaper/tools clean! It also keeps the sanding...
You could also build a filter from a 5 gallon paint bucket and some HVAC parts.

Looks great! My only nitpick would be Luke's poncho on the back of the speeder. It needs some dirtying down/weathering. It looks too clean and neat compared to everything else.
Hit both their web sites on Sunday mornings. They post printable coupons that are good either all week or on select days. They always have one for 40% or 50% off a single item. Print out one a day and stock up!

If you have an IKEA near you, hit the "As-Is" section of the warehouse part of the store. Aside from damaged/incomplete furniture, they usually have a whole pile of spare parts. See if you can find a glass door piece from a cabinet.
And when a 1 oz bottle of Micro-Sol runs $5 or so compared to a 16 oz bottle of cheap store brand white vinegar for $0.99, what do you think is the better deal?
If you can work outside, Easy Off Oven Cleaner is much faster. I've stripped kits in a matter of minutes with that stuff. It's nasty though, which is why you should use it outdoors. Put the kit on the driveway or a piece of plywood in the yard and spray it with EOOC. Let sit for 10-15...
