The Pontos advanced set arrived. Wood deck, resin parts, bags of brass barrels and fittings, large sheet of PE railings, one sheet steel PE and (look away now Boatman) 14 sheets of brass PE.

Now that's gonna keep me busy for at least an hour........ Pantherman

Just a little update, I haven't been asleep. I have been sanding down all the lumps, bumps, mould marks, mould joins and anything that needs removing for PE on the hull. Every night for the last 2 weeks but it's been very relaxing after work.

Now looking at what needs removing on the deck before priming and painting all the parts not covered by the new wood deck.

This thing is massive, really got to check and check again before removing anything. Pontos has 6 A3 double sided instruction sheets plus trumpeter 24 A4 double sided instruction sheets, great bedtime reading for the next year.

Haven't even thought about painting the beast yet. Pantherman

1/200 too big for my workbench.. 1/350 Revell and Pontos kit

Finally got the 316 brass parts sorted out and bagged for saving time later on when I actually need the bit's. That was an enjoyable 4hrs. Pantherman

I decided that the best way to do this is mark up the bits of plastic that need to be removed so that I don't chop anything I need to keep.

So portside of the upper deck level done. Well that explains why I have 15 sheets of PE. Pantherman

I didn't use all of it, my skill level and the need to preserve my sanity prevented me from doing so.

SO Kevin how many sheets did you use ? as i would have been ready for the rubber room with that amount

I would guess about 60 % of the Pontos PE was used in the build.
The up side is now I have alot of PE parts and sheets to use as fodder for potential scratch building on other projects.

My degaussing strip has arrived so that will be tonight's project. Pantherman

And fitted, the tape really helped line it up nicely.

It looks like it curves up but that's just the angle of the photo. It is straight with the waterline.

I got all the measurements from the plans in the Anatomy of the Ship book, which is absolutely fantastic for reference and more than worth the £30.

I've looked at every photo and plan in the Anatomy book and found nothing...... Pantherman

I would wager they attach to the side of the hull above the water line.
I had somewhat similar parts from Pontos on the USS IOWA.
I would guess they are addional tie off points.
I put them on my ship but they didn't survive the handling of the hull through out the build. I am not even sure at which point they went missing.

Probably 8 - 10 months, maybe longer if I do all the rigging as well. Pantherman

Decided to have a break from upper deck cleaning and sanding so gave the main deck a coat of gloss varnish yesterday to help with the wooden decking.

It's a bit tricky and be very careful if you need to pull any part back up as it will rip easily but overall an enjoyable 3hrs. Pantherman

I have an a3 cutting matt sitting on a 1200 x 400 felt matt. I was thinking of getting a 1200 x 500 cutting matt but I wouldn't really need all that area for cutting so went with the cheaper option.

The felt matt was £13 on temu and they have the same size cutting mat for around £30. Pantherman
