Bismarck 1/350 Revell + Pontos kit

Scale Model Addict - Model Tips, Guides, Tools & Tech, Tutorials, and Community

Help Support Scale Model Addict:

Got a reply from Revell and they are sending the 1/2 hulls and damaged part (F50). Poor quality kit but great service!
And no reply from Pontos..

And chimney funnel (thanks Chris) with putty at an acceptable level. Next: start installing all PE parts on it (you can see some on the background)

Good news re revell. The chimney, funnel, smokey thing looks like fun. Pantherman

Thanks! I assume you have an even more complex "exhaust" to build
This is my version of the big sticky up thing in the middle of the boat....

Interesting to me that after so many years, manufacturers haven't found a way to improve assembly at the hull/ seam line along the keel, other than to offer a uni-hull...
Though it is true of the other model types as well; IMHO, meaning that mastering any one type of model is about overcoming the failings of the kit engineering as much as it is about understanding the intricacies of a particular type of craft/vehicle.
Probably a combination of cost vs what we are willing to accept as far as fit and finish.

And the cap on top... Thought it would be more difficult to install those tiny pieces. Will see how it looks when painted.
I was supposed to remove the inside plastic and replace with PE parts but pass on this one. When the inside will be painted black, it should be fine.

On the 1/200 I have to chop out everything and remake the lot in very very fine PE. Looking forward to that. PM

I was also looking at the wave breaker provided by Pontos, and this is becoming madness.
Need to glue all stiffeners and some (#609) are so tiny (see second pic with the pencil as scale) that I don't see how I could glue them, even pick them up. Ideas?

That is definitely going to be a challenge. Very fine pin tweezers and tiny spot of loctite 60 glue would be my approach. Pantherman

the build is coming together quite nicely! Those tiny PE parts would drive me mad! I've no idea how to glue those without getting all sloppy- I have a hard enough time with big parts!

Fiberglass pencil? What is this?? So is loctite 60 what you're using for your PE? Does it work with accelerator? I feel like my next skill to overcome is not being so damn sloppy with glue and I'm having a difficult time finding products that I can use to this end.

Loctite 60? I'll have to look

Also, what is the glue called that needs a uv light to set? That seems like it would be helpful. Thanks.

The fiber glass pen is like a mini stiff brush, great for removing excess glue. Photos attached. PM

Thanks for posting! How do you keep the glues from drying in the applicator tips? I've tried tapping the bottles when I'm done just curious if you have any tips.
I unscrew the cap a few hours after using it. I fit flexible syringe tops to the tube / pot and dispose of it after use. You can get 100 on amazon for around £7. Pantherman
