I was watching YouTube the other day and came across Champion Scale Modeling by Jason Champion (I've been a subscriber to his channel for sometime). The title of this video is; The Best Aircraft Model Ever? Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire Mk. I (full build).
Jason put this build upon a pedestal giving Tamiya kudos for the engineering. My interest was peaked and since I had never built any British products before I thought I would give this Spitfire a try.
I placed the order Friday afternoon so it will be waiting when the wife and I get back from our weekend in Galveston.

I'm Looking forward to this build.

Interested to see how this goes. I have seen the tamiya 1/48 on amazon and it's a fair price but trying to stay true to my German building with the occasional 'one off' on commission sometimes.

I probably won't have a diorama for this plane.
Good greif, I need to either slow down or..... lol :D that's funny.1684636994435.png
Seriously. I'm running out of room on my shelves with the dioramas.
But I should look at slowing down because that means more to pack when we move after I retire at the end of next year. (thats the plan, anyway).
We did find a couple of house down here in Galveston this weekend but, we still have a year to go.

I like most of the German machines, especially the armored vehicles but I also like a lot of the allied ones too. For the allies it would have to be the P-38F.

So far so easy. This Spitfire build is going together just as perfect as the Tamiya P-38F.
I do not find any flash or pin marks.

I did some research and I notice that there are a few different camouflage schemes. The one I am considering is the blueish grey and green camouflage.
I'm also thinking of adding the invasion stripes.

As I was doing my research for the Spitfire I found some which were pink! Then read they were used as recon planes. Some had Invasion Stripes.
That gave me another option for my build.
I've started on my build. It is typical Tamiya with flawless engineering on their newer kits. The cockpit has a lot of knickknacks and doodads.
I'm going slow on this build.

A pink one, I'm going to definitely have to build that.

Cockpit is finally finished. I've decided to add the pilot. He has alot of nice detail.

Yes, that would be kind of cool, but I have now opted for the Ocean Grey & green. If I ever choose another Spitfire I will do that in the pink.

I have finished the cockpit and pilot.

Also, I decided it was time to get a wet pallette. It's just a cheap little one, I think I paid about $11 ‐ 12 for it. It's a good size for my bench

In my research for invasion stripes I have found that many were hand painted and kind of messy and some had hard Sharp lines.
I'm kind of liking the hand painted look.

I forgot where I found it but there is info out there with the correct spacing, used it for my two mustangs.

Absolutely you will.
Gary, you have really got me hooked on the pink Spitfire. Been doing some research and now on the brink of ordering the tamiya Spitfire.

Goes against all my posts about doing German armour mostly........but it will be pink so feel it's acceptable !!!

I want to get another one just to do a pink one. Very intriguing concept. :p
