Well, my 2nd leg washing didn't go so well. I wore through the Alclad flat coat and made a big mess of it. Suggestions?

Yes, make lemonade ;) . That is, I wouldn't worry about trying to match the other leg, necessarily, but I'd apply some weathering to that spot, to make it look like something else happened. Maybe some mud spattering, or oil or grease, or some scuffing.

Should I Future it first, before I continue weathering? I attempted to cover with more wash but it didn't really take; just kept wiping off.

If it was me I'd hit it with a coat of future and then go back to more layers. When I'm done with washes etc I'll cover with Vallejo matt...

You could go old school and dry brush some silver over that area for that scraped metal look. Or not. I like Adam's idea as well.

Applied a Future seal layer, then decals, then a second Future layer. I can still see those clear edges to the decals but I'm hoping with washes they'll vanish.

Also, the kit was supposed to come with decals but didn't, so I used a sheet from my last Tamiya Chevy Truck build. :)

Bit more glueing up tonight. Added the large hoses, the remaining panels and the weapon w/hose.

Also masked and re-sprayed the canopy so it wasn't so striking a blue color.

I've also started to piece together my diorama idea.

Scratch built the mailbox and post (my first attempt!) and printed a re-sized sign just as a quick look-test.

The subtle weathering continues with small amounts of wash and pigments.

I always find this to be the slowest part as I experiment with colors and ideas.

eBay is a good source, as is Hobby Link Japan for new kits, but they're pretty pricey.
