Re: Battle of Britain - Air Superiority: Nerd Herd Group Build

Hey folks, I got a Spitfire. I'm in.

Not sure when I'll get to it. I will probably take a HOTH break for a week or two mid build, just to recharge, and put the Spitfire together. Cool.

And you know what. Everyone who does a build for this will be entered for a chance to win a prize. Not a competition, just a thank you for entering raffle, on me.

Thanks guys!

Re: Battle of Britain - Air Superiority: Nerd Herd Group Build

Re: Battle of Britain - Air Superiority: Nerd Herd Group Build

Well, you're the "man" cause yer the grand poomba for NH! lol

I think that color scheme was use in the Battle of Britain (MK I). I think the later Spitfire colors were Dark Green and Gray for the camo. It doesn't matter though, we're not picky and the GB isn't based on accuracy. lol As long as it was used in the BoB. The camo is the same colors as mine so that'll be:

Dark Earth and Dark Green for Humbol and XFi52 and XF-61 for Tamiya.

The underside I'm not sure. it looks yellow but I believe at this time the MK I was light gray or Black/White.

Here's a link to an MK I: http://hsfeatures.com/spitfiremkibg_1.htm

Re: Battle of Britain - Air Superiority: Nerd Herd Group Build

Sweet. Thanks. Gotta hand it to Brett Green - the grand daddy of modeling videos.

Re: Battle of Britain - Air Superiority: Nerd Herd Group Build

Haha, yeh I remember those were the first vids I looked at when I jumped back into the hobby.

Re: Battle of Britain - Air Superiority: Nerd Herd Group Build

I have the Revel kit. Should work for tat too.

I butchered the underside of the wings trying to scribe it a year ago. I dug it out to look at it tonight. What a hack job. I'll have to really crash it in the ground - LOL, or sand and try again.

Thanks.

Re: Battle of Britain - Air Superiority: Nerd Herd Group Build

Cool, I'll e-mail you a *pdf tomorrow.

Re: Battle of Britain - Air Superiority: Nerd Herd Group Build

If you don't split the underside with black and white like Bret Green's example, you then would use sky grey, a lighter grey. The B/W scheme was to assist anti-aircraft gunners to not hit friendly aircraft.

Some BoB aircraft sported a blue underside, and yet others went an overall a coal black, a dull shade of warm black. Typically however Spits went brown, green and grey with a sky band near the tail and a prop hub factory finished with sky.

Two and three bladed props were the norm for the BoB marks of Spits as well.

Some inspiration. I love this diorama

Re: Battle of Britain - Air Superiority: Nerd Herd Group Build

Should you ever find yourself owning a shop, do not leave your supplies about.
My TenX was left uncovered and I am now without. And the LHS has a sad story of TenX7R no longer being made. . . AGAIN.
So off I go into this venture without my favorite tools and glue. . .
