Slight setback with this one yesterday. In my rush to get this "quick and easy" kit together I screwed up. Yesterday I went to do some final assembly and realized my mistake. The top cowling piece should have been in place prior to attaching the canopy. Apparently I glued the canopy on like it was going to fly through a hurricane and ended up popping one wing off while trying to remove the canopy. Heavy sigh. Papers call to paint this piece dark green, I went with black because it will look better and at this point I'm doing my own thing anyway. Canopy sits kind of funny so I'll have to figure out how to make this work. So much for a level 3 kit! Or maybe I'm just not level 3. Idk.Started this awhile ago and hit it with another coat today. Decided to go bold with the color.

Hit it with most of the decals this am. Instructions didn't show bottom of plane and I was lazy so didn't verify us insignia placement. The side cowling decal doesn't make any sense to me- no idea why they've split it up into four decal pieces. It's certainly not necessary. I went with glenview naval air base because I took the asvab there- dint end up joining probably my biggest regret in life. Color is not accurate but that was my choice. I had wanted to go with the front antenna and line to tail for the look but am guessing that would be another inaccuracy for a glenview model from 50's. At this point maybe I should throw my other accuracy concerns out the window too. No idea what I'm going to do about the gap in the tail decal- any ideas?Slight setback with this one yesterday. I do too if it's a band but this incorporated us navy as well. Are you talking about the red band on the tail? Probably easiest to touch it up with thinned paint and then spray some clear over it to help blend it in. I always paint those colored bands on. The decals never look right.
Not my best work but I'm calling it quits in this. Hopefully I get one more kit done before year is out and end on a better note. I do like the color. Kit was as bad as its reputation. I may scrub the decals at a later date since that's what I'm unhappy with but I've put way more time than I wanted to so…Hit it with most of the decals this am.
