Okay, going to go for a third build.
Going to step back to my childhood for this one.
One of the first shows I was allowed to "stay up" for back in the 70s was "Baa Baa Black Sheep" or, as it was later known, "Black Sheep Squadron"

In remembering that show, and one of my favorite planes, I'm going to be building the Academy 1/48 scale F4U1-D Corsair.
The main reason I bought this one was the plane shown on the box.
It was "PAPPY'S"

I've picked up a pilot to put in her as well. I'm looking forward to this build

Nice, I have some superscale markings here for the same aircraft, as well as the Tamiya kit and some Eduard PE. Gon built it some day. A word of caution though about the Academy Corsairs, watch the fit of the flaps.

I loved that show!

When I was a teenager there was a guy who lived a few doors down from me who I knew and occassionally said "hi" to, but didn't know him all that well. I ended up delivering a pizza to his house once and he invited me in to wait while he got the payment. On the wall was a photo with a message written on it, signed "Pappy." I asked him,"Is that Pappy Boyington?" and he said yes. Apparently they were buddies.

One of my claims to fame... I knew somebody who knew a WWII Ace :p

Cool, fcshmidt. My dad grew up around the guy who took over from Boyington.
And that show was what introduced me to the Corsair. I love that bird.

@Carsenault.
Thanks for the warning.

This should be fun. I've never seen the show but I do really like the look of the Corsairs.

Looking forward to the build Q! Corsair has to be one of my favs!!! The show was pretty cool too......damn that was a while ago! Good luck!! ;D

Nice! ;D

I met Pappy at El Toro Marine Base @ 1976. I was 8 or 9 at the time. All I could do was stare. LOL

I love that show, too :))

".....first you fix your Engine, then i fix you..." Riceball was my favorite :)

You building "my" bird?
Nice!
I'll be following this build closely!
AWESOME!

Nice choice for a 3rd build Quaralane! Acadamy kits go together pretty well (not that i would know or anything lol), so you should make quick work of this one. Good luck mate!

Thanks, guys.
I should, with luck, have more up tonight.

And Myke? It's definitely a quick build

And now, for some actual assembly progress pics.
Installed the rest of the controls into the sides of the cockpit

Have the engine inside its cowling.
Before I installed it, I drybrushed the motor pieces with silver.

After fixing a problem I caused with the cockpit deck, I gave the cockpit interior a light black wash.

Also got main assembly on the wings themselves done

Nicer quick progress on this one. The side consoles should be interior green as well, with black switch panels if I remember correctly. Later on in the war, the Corsairs all had the sidewalls painted flat black above the side consoles, but for a Solomon based USMC Corsair, you'd be safe with the interior green side walls.
Been a very long time since I built my Academy Corsair. It was to be a Fleet Air Arm Corsair Mk3, with the slate grey/dark green uppers and sky lower fuselage and under the wings. I dont remember exactly what trouble I had with the flaps, turns out I couldnt get either the dropped or the raised flaps to fit as they were supposed to, I ended up pitching the kit in the garbage. The decals actually looked nice, so I saved the kit sheet with hopes of someday using them on a Tamiya Corsair. If you can, treat yourself to one of those, they are a much better representation of the F4U-1s than pretty much anything else on the market. And they go together so well, I've built 2 and havent had to use any filler one eitehr one. Here's the last one I built, as one of the birds flown by Boyington's USN counterpart, Ira Kepford...

Going to town here Q!! Great progress! This pace she'll be flying next weekend!!! ;D

Very cool...I'll be following this for sure. I was stationed in El Toro as a re-fueler on the flight line back in the mid 80's when Pappy passed away. VMA 214 held a small ceremony that day. Back then VMA 214 flew A4 Skyhawks.

Off to a great start so far.

Cheers
