"Pappy's Bird"

Thanks again, guys.
Got the major paintwork finished.
Now I need to put on the gear doors and prop. Then it will be sealer time

Very nice on the painting.
Tough to beat Vallejo when you are brushing it on.
Great work.

Thanks, Myke.

Construction is finished, as is primary paint
Landing gear doors, main gear wheels, and the prop have been installed.
At this point, she needs a coat of sealer, and then it's time for decals.

Thanks again, guys.
I'll likely have the final reveal up sometime this weekend.
Thanks for watching.

Q did you paint the whole plane by hand? if so how did you overcome the issue of brush strokes and inconsistency. i have tried painting with tamiya acrylic and it is a nightmare if there is no base coat. Was the Valeho better? Also where do you get them as my hobby shop does not carry that brand. Looks real good!!!

Whole plane was done by hand, noc5659.
The Vallejo paint was shaken really well in the bottle, and used straight for the darker blue.
The others were thinned a little.
The white actually took about three coats to get right.

And I found ONE hobby shop locally that carried the Vallejo brand.
The good news there, is they are one of our sponsors. Link is up at the top of the page here at the forum

Crickey Q......................you didn`t hang about!!!............LOL!!, i just check in for another visit and `Hey Presto` it`s done, great work fella and top painting.......love it!! ;D

Wow! you just built and finished a 1/48 Corsair in less time than it takes me to think about building and finishing a 1/48 Corsair. ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for the comments, guys.

And here we have it, I've gone in and done the weathering on Pappy's Bird, and finished up the base for it.
The weathering was done with a combination of Vallejo Smoke and some light black washing in certain places.

The base was a wooden plaque from Wal-Mart. I painted it flat black, then gave it a coat of semi-gloss as a sealer coat.
After that was done, I coated a good portion of the plaque with a mix of water and PVA glue, then covered that with dirt and sand.
The "water" was just painted on with blue ink.
The dedication plate features the Black Sheep squadron emblem, and the same line I've been using at the end of the build videos:
Dedicated to the memory of
