NYLON GAG MK 1 - FINISHED

Re: NYLON GAG MK 1?

Are you trying to scare me? i'm worrying about the LED's let alone putting RC vents in, LOL ;D but it is a great idea Jam.
I did have the idea to make the inside of the wings fully detailed with lots of removable hatches and some open ones and make some kind of living area inside the main body with a cut away section but like you also said Jam, i would like to finish this thing one day, besides i haven't said what i intend to do with the 'trailer' yet?
That is going to be a bit of a mission with, if all goes according to plan, about 60 redbull can size 'storage tanks' all rotating about a 10' long central shaft. I can't be too specific because as you have seen i'm making this up as i go with a very basic idea of how it will all go together, eventually.
Plan B is to give the ship removable landing gear so i can display the ship by itself or on the large stand with trailer attached, i may put the landing gear on anyway haven't decided yet.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Gags, this is stunning, dude! Those intake vents are genius. And you're making swift progress! Nice work buddy.

Re: NYLON GAG MK 1?

Evenin all,

Made some good progress this week, I had to repair one of the fiber optics on the front because when i filled some of the cracks with a new superglue, some of it got into the right side tube and ruined the fibers. :(
So i had to snap off the tube at the back and drill out the section of tube in the winglet to remove the string and old fibers. I then replaced the fiber optics. ;D

I sanded and filled the side intakes and the front winglets.

I'm going to add a central spine behind the radar/cannon platform, running all the way to the back, but thats tomorrow. Also going to see EP.1-3D tomorrow with the wife ;D, giving more of my money to George.

Re: NYLON GAG MK 1?

Sorry to hear about yer fibre optic troubles. :(
She's coming along very nicely, and looking great!

Re: NYLON GAG MK 1?

Evenin all,
Been a few weeks since my last update. Thanks for the kind words Mike.
Finaly sorted my light rig out, ;D got every thing pre-wired and ready but still haven't installed it yet but now at least i have a clear idea of how to wire it all up(famous last words). ;D

So here's a quick update:
I re-did the top panel bit, it looked more like a patio door the longer i looked at it. So i added the bars instead, it still looks a little 'off' to me but i think(hope) its because the rest is bare so it stands out more. When the rest of the central body is detailed i think it will balance out. What do you guys think?

Picture%2520842.jpg

I started the front wing section and put a panel in front of the intake against the body. Also i installed the central support for the back main body section.

Picture%2520872.jpg

Put the top on the front wing.

Picture%2520909.jpg

Filled the front edge.

Picture%2520910.jpg

Worked on design for airlock located on the underside at the back.

Picture%2520915.jpg

Cut out the hole using a Tamiya scriber but left it till later. Now its mainly just for access to the wiring.

Picture%2520918.jpg

Started with the rear top body. Will fill this with greebly 'tubs' later.

Picture%2520922.jpg

Also started the greebly tubs for the underside of the wings.

Picture%2520929.jpg

I seem too of started a lot of stuff this past few weeks. ;D

Got frustrated with the top middle/gun/radar/access to the inside bit of the ship.
Lost my modelling mojo :( for a while but have been doing alot of thinking about the build, getting a solution to the problems and with the light rig finaly sorted in my head it all seems to be falling into place.(at least in my head, what can possibly go wrong.......)

Comments welcome
Thanks for looking

Re: NYLON GAG MK 1?

Great to see this moving along. It's a huge undertaking and looking awesome.

Re: NYLON GAG MK 1?

This has come along very nicely indeed.

I like all the grills and greeblies on the top. I don't think they look wrong in any way, but if you're going to add detailing to the body, then I think it'll look all the better!

Keep up the awesome work Gag! 8)

Re: NYLON GAG MK 1?

This thing just has so many shapes and angles,
then you add in the detail and you need to take
a nap after you look at it..........EXCELLENT!

Re: NYLON GAG MK 1?

Gag, You are a master of scratch-built grills. Definitely.
This looks mind-blowing awesome!
Keep up this great work.

Re: NYLON GAG MK 1?

What is up my fellow Herdsters,

Thanks for the kind words.

No real up date but i just noticed this is my 100th post so i wanted to make it a bit special.
Yesterday i collected my step Mother from the airport. She's visiting for 2 weeks from England. 3 years ago she also planned to visit about this time but 2 weeks before her trip she was diagnosed with colon cancer and was advised to start treatment immediately and not travel, especially 9 hours on a plane across the atlantic.
My Dad was the one who got me into modelling when i was a nipper and in his later life, after he retired, he opened a small buisness supplying his Railway modeller friends with very specific PE for their 'O gauge' trains and this is in the day when you couldn't get PE. He was a graphic artist by trade so he also started supplying, again, very specific decals for trains and carridges(his speciality) and even complete train and carridge models made completely from PE (you had to form and solder the parts yourself). He continued to expand his product line to small castings, specialist fittings basically if you wanted it my dad would get it made for you then add it to his product line.

Sadly my Dad passed away in 2003 also from cancer after only 3 months of illness. My step mum, not wishing the buisness to go under, took up the raines of my Dads business, learned to operate a computer, she was involved in a small capacity already but as you can imagine the learning curve for her was massive as far as the 'nerdy detail' of the subject was concerned but she still managed to not only learn about everything but she has actually expanded the buisness and released some products of her own, this for the last 3 years all whilst undergoing chemo and walking around with a colostomy bag attached(i just can't imagine how i would cope).
Don't bother trying to find the company on the web because shes only small and only sells by mail order and at exibitions and shows around England, which she drives to by herself with a car load of product and display stuff which she sets up by herself. Did i mension she will be 73 on the 21st of March. She usually makes about $3000 of buisness at these shows which is pretty good considering most of the products are not that expensive because my dad usually charged people close to cost because he said it was more important to help his fellow modellers than make a massive profit. The name of the company is CPL products.

Two weeks ago my step mum was given her 18 month check up and everything is clear, she is cancer free.

She is truly a remarkable woman with a personal spirit and drive that inspires me every day.

Plus she was over the moon to discover i had started modelling again after so long away from the hobby, so the man cave has once again become the guest room for two weeks but i don't mind so much, it's just a pleasure to have her healthy.

Thanks for you time.

Re: NYLON GAG MK 1?

That's great news, I'm glad to hear your mother's healthy again. I guess the visit is a good enough reason for you to "slack off" on this build. ;) Enjoy the time with your family.

Re: NYLON GAG MK 1?

God bless her and your family! That is wonderful, my mom also just recently beat stomach cancer so I know exactly how you feel. Just fantastic!

Re: NYLON GAG MK 1?

Very glad to hear she got the all clear! She sounds like great lady. :)

Re: NYLON GAG MK 1?

Hello Nerdsters,
Well my step mom has returned to sunny Blighty so back in the man cave again and straight to work.
Just a small update of the weekends activites so far :-

Last time i was here i had just started the 'greeblie tubs' for the underside of the wings with a dry fit of the pipes. So now on to layering other bits'n'bobs,

Picture%2520935.jpg

Glued in the pipes

Picture%2520937.jpg

Some more greeblies

Picture%2520938.jpg

Trim everything to fit in the 'tub'

Picture%2520940.jpg

Picture%2520941.jpg

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm wet Primer ;D

Picture%2520945.jpg

Picture%2520946.jpg

Painted in the details

Picture%2520948.jpg

Black Pastel wash

Picture%2520952.jpg

Brown pastel wash

Picture%2520954.jpg

Little bit of dry brush and i think were done.

Picture%2520961.jpg

Also made some small thruster nozzels for the round underside holes.

Picture%2520965.jpg

I may end up enlarging the holes as all my tubs turned out so nice and then when i'm putting the final skin on i can play with the shape of the holes and have the tubs with the right amount showing. At the moment the holes are a bit small . I plan to put some surface piping lines that will also end in the front of the tub opening, so with larger holes this will be a lot easier.

Thanks for the kind words about my step mom. Showed her the site and some of the work being done here, she commented on how high the standard of all builds was plus what a large range of subjects there were.

So give yourselves a pat on the back and keep it up. ;D

Comments welcome as all ways

It's good to be back ;D

Gag

P.S The new site's fantastic Scott, thanks for all your hard work for the upgrade.
