Mak " GIRAFFE " -- ECM Camel

What a fascinating build! Great insight into the source for details like the hoses.

Thanks for explaining the stock you used for the hoses. This really convinces me to use my old shoelaces on one of my queued-up MaK builds.

No prob , Baron ;D

I almost bought some waxed string used for jewelry to experiment with ( not as hoses but other lines ) but figured they might look odd with the texture they posses --- still might .
It comes in a lot of really vibrant colors ..

I also have these Tamiya hoses in 2mm
The texture is OK but they are tinsel-shiny ;D

Regular old nylon cord in the middle .
... The Model Factory Hiro 'hoses' are in ~92mm sticks ( ::) ) :

I was going to use the 2mm Tamiya to connect the BiC tanks on the port side , but it needs something heavier so I'm deconstructing this piece in the foreground from a 105mm howitzer limber ( AFV Club )

I've found that artillery kits make great donor kits !
They invariably have multiple hand-wheels and other goodies and I always scoop up ones on sale :)

Components going together - slowly - to replace laser and become giraffe ...

Added head-lamps ( shin-lamps ;) ) ,,, I think they need a little something more added .. :

I added to the " muffler-pump "

as given :

" fantasticated " :

shorter connecting line in the end :p :

I ditched the copper pipe pieces .

I needed to mill 1.5 X 3.5mm slots in them to facilitate attaching tie-down straps and soon realized that I do not posses the tools required to make it less than a week long event ;D

.... plus they were too heavy for their purpose ::)

Switched to 1/2 styrene and trimmed the design -- just a bit
I just don't feel like doing any of this detail drilling and sanding right now :-[ :-[

.. Especially rounding the ends of all these things --- I need to get creative to make sure they're all as identical as possible ...
..................... stuff always looks goood until you snap a picture and view it on the monitor ..

... with the intention of using the 1" bench-top belt-sander to roll the edges ... but was quickly poo-poo'd due to the plastic melting from the friction , and I really needed to construct a jig to accurately pull it off , ... ::) more work :p

so I just went back to the file and 400 grit sanding stick

20151111_152632_zpsgv5qhru9.jpg

it's getting there ..

then the plan is to cut these ' bolts ' to the depth of one and a half the depth of the hole and solvent weld 2 together while rotating the joint to avoid cementing the joint solid ::) ::) :p

Thank you , BK

I'm anxious to finish building and get on the shading and moon weathering to blend it all nicely ;D

I plan on posting the finished model on Maschinenkrueger when that happens -- maybe couple of weeks :-\

Have you built this thing ?
I don't see many -- ever ;)

Well ,
Just visited Maschinenkrueger.com and gazed upon a blessed Camel .
Quite nice .
It employs the transition piece between the cockpit and the fuselage ..

And
Hot off the press
ready for further sanding

There's some rejects in there but there's at least a half dozen extras anywaze

This plastic stock ( Evergreen 3.2x4.8 ) has some mondo saw marks on the cut sides :p

..........i can't get this camera to focus close enough for a pic ....
But it needs some 500 grit wet action for sure .

Dwartist's Camel? The white one? Yeah, he's really good.

I don't see many Camels either. I'm not a fan of the design and didn't bother with getting a kit. I did have plans ages ago to scratch build one just for the challenge (even obtained a few of the uber rare motorcycle kits involved) but ultimately ditched the plans and sold off the donor kits. :-/

Interesting .

Do you recall which motorcycles ?

I came across a resin build -- I don't remember the artist , it was 2 plus years ago ,, -- that was cool and had various differences but was painted fairly monochromatic .
But black or close to it . The opposite of Dwartist's .

Off to work I must go ...

Later

1/8 th huh ?

I was pondering what scale the carcass would have to be ..

I can't really visulize it ( them , those )
Maybe :-\
I'd really like to see that WIP

The motos donated the "A" shape parts for the feet and some other misc. parts. The 1/35 Tamiya Gepard donated the leg joint hubs, main chin laser, and other misc. parts. The sphere was one of those gashapon - vending machine - type balls. The main body was built up from putty as far as I know.

I never started the build but spent A LOT of time researching the parts.

Very cool ;D

so the main body isn't a kit-bash
I was trying to see the motorcycle shape , tank and tail , in the fuselage

Just picked this up :

Will be experimenting ....

Anyone familiar with it ? ::)

Ciao

Not a lot of progress ...
Lots of little stuff

Few shots of the direction the rack and tank connections are headed :
