In local News, Richard "Dick" Winters 1918-2011, I was lucky enough to meet him a couple of times, He was local to me he was very humble about his fame.

:'(

//salutes

i will never forget you Richard, my heart goes out to you, and the rest of E company Dick.

this makes me so sad, these guys busted there butts out there to preserve our freedom and stop the Nazi war machine, the 101st airborne was one of the most elite Military units of its time, especually Easy company, they where trained hard and proved there worth.

a small squad of 101st airborne on a embankment, took on two entire Companies of SS single handed, firing squad stile over the embankment, captured or destroyed both Companies of SS, and suffered few casualties, all wile under the command of this very man! they held the forests of Bastogn during the battle of the Buldge despite the constant shelling the Germans sent at them time and time again, never backed down, they even claimed they did not need Pattons help. and they where the first to capture the Eagles nest.

Very saddened to hear of the passing of this most impressive man. No doubt he would have been able to make a fairly long list of those things he would rather have been doing instead of being shot at and shelled, but I for one am most grateful that there were such people as Dick Winters to 'step up to the plate'. There are only 20 of this famous company left now, apparently. I hope that all their stories are told and not forgotten.
