Hi Guys!

Ok, this is my first build article that I will share here at ScaleModelAddict... I had started this a few weeks ago and am keeping a "thread" of it at another site but wanted to share it with you here as well...

I am building this kit for my wife's grandfather who had given me a very nice 1964 VW Bug as a gift last Christmas. He was a B-24 pilot back during WWII and I thought he would appreciate a nicely detailed model of one.

The kit is from Hasegawa. I am using some Eduard Photo-Etch and their canopy mask also... It is going to be an "All Metal" finish with some minor detailing on the panel lines and exhaust staining... Other than that, grandpa had asked for a "new" look for his model...

Here are the build pics so far... Towards the end of the pics you'll notice a difference in the pics... I am using a different camera and still "teething" on it... Please bear with me! :)

Problems with adding weight to nose... They want 90gr. I think it is a typo... The 3 large weights you will see are the 90 gr. and there is no way it will fit where they want it...

My solution is to use some smaller weights and go from there...

Here is where I am using the new camera...

Sorry I didn't give a whole lot of detail with these pics... I will try to add more info when I upload new ones and get you updated...

'Til next time!

That's great. I have the "Dragon and His Tail" version of the same kit in my stash. I'll be watching your thread for tips, n' tricks. ;D

Good stuff.

Looks like you're off to a very nice start.
I'm liking how solid those wing supports look

I love the detail on the engines and the wheel bays look like they have a lot of detail as well. Looking great so far.

For 1/72 scale, those Hasegawa kits have a nice level of detail. Your build looks like is going smoothly. What is like working on photo etched parts? Are those more time consuming than the model itself? they look intimidating.

Hey, Sorry I didn't respond to your question about the PE... I had to hang up this model for the summer... It gets too hot here in Arizona to work out in the mancave sometimes and I didn't want to risk the Alclad paint job that i have intended for this build... I should be picking this back up soon... To answer your question, Sometimes it can be a real pain in the "dupa"! Especially in these smaller 1/72 scales! This kit isn't too bad but something like the 1/72 Stuka that I did awhile back really stressed me out... I was building it for a contest... It pays big dividends in the end with much added realism though! :)

I've always wanted to build this model, but the price for this kit is just too much. My local hobby store wants about $75 to $80

Great job on the model!!!!!
