Actually, they probably occurred at nearly the same time. Consider the grain harvesting and storage capabilities of the time, plus the periodic scarcity of food, often just before planting season, and all this in a warm environment. Perfect situation to discover the joys of fermentation.Haha, I had a Belgian friend who always referred to beer as 'pain liquide', liquid bread.
Though he touched on the early formulation of beer, for some time there was a lot of debate as to what came first: beer, or bread?
I don't know what the official concensus is now, but in my heart of hearts, I like to think it was... BEER!
Corn, a grain that spends half it's life as a vegetable according to the US FDA.

Yeah, I sorta see both sides. I really like Crown Royal, but really dislike Canadian Club. Most self-proclaimed connoisseurs say all blends are poope. But I have to say the nastiest "whiskey" I ever tasted was something Irish (which makes ~30% of my ancient heritage) and it was just horrible and still was priced at over $150USD back in ~2004.I like the snipe at canadian whiskey, <snip>
