All right, now we have the current project on the bench.
This time, we're going with a hypothetical "Viper Mark 3" based on the 2003-2008 version of Battlestar Galactica
Technically, I'm trying to do this as a contest entry, but I'm not worried about who knows about it.

We start with the basic schematic adapted from the Viper Mark 2
(Original Mark 2 schematic drawn by bagera3005)

Landing gear assemblies done

Work on the cockpit:
Basecoated in Testor's Neutral Grey
Seat was painted in in Olive Drab
Picked out some of the dials in black, and hand-painted the back of the Dradis screen
The whole assembly was given a black wash before being placed in the fuselage

Cockpit inserted into the main fuselage.
Bottom plate with completed landing gear assembly.
Also did some SERIOUS sanding onthe main seam line running down the center of the fuselage

Wing customization work.
Middle section of the wing was cut out with a razor saw, then the inserts/adapters were cut from sheet styrene and glued to the parts

Assembly mock-up to get a feel for the progress.
I still need to add the new airfoils, but this gives a really good idea of where the build is going.
I still need to skin the wings as well.

Re: Colonial Viper Mark 3

One day I will have time for mods like this. Keep posting!!!!

Re: Colonial Viper Mark 3

Actually, these videos show what amounts to only two-three days work at an hour or three a day.

Have to start "skinning" the wings next

Latest updates on the build

Work progresses on the custom wings.
Slots have been cut into the kit guns, and the wings are finished off with a fresh skin of Aves Apoxie Scuplt

The pilot figure gets some custom work as well.
I've removed the kit pilot's head, and replaced it with one from the MMI female pilot set. The old "head" will now be used for her empty helmet.
I've also gone in and removed the control stick from the pilot's hand and sculpted a new thumb on the right hand so she can give her ground crew a "thumbs up" before putting on her helmet and being moved into the tube for launch

Okay,
Rough assembly is now complete. Wings are in place, and the airfoils have been added from sheet styrene

Hmmm...
Contest...
Starfighter...

(Jedi mind trick) You don't want to enter this one in the contest.

(because i hope i can get mine done in time ;))

Re: Colonial Viper Mark 3--updated 11/26

Still hoping I can get her done in time, Exarkun77. ;)
Have some sanding to do on her yet as the primer coat reveals some issues with some of my fill work

Re: Colonial Viper Mark 3--updated 11/26

Still hoping i can get mine done in time, too.
So if by any chance i can enter the contest too, we'll have a nice dogfight, because your viper looks very promising.

Re: Colonial Viper Mark 3--updated 11/26

No worries!! I don't have time for a contest entry, so relax. I have three really bad weeks at work and then I am off for a month, so unless that contest deadline is in Feb. no way I will enter it. I was just curios as what you where talking about.

Re: Colonial Viper Mark 3--updated 11/26

NP. Grendels.
I'm figuring I'm not likely to win, but the fun is in the build.

Re: Colonial Viper Mark 3--updated 11/26

Work continues on the Viper build.
Got the engines, inserts, and guns painted up in a nice dark metallic blue mix that was drybrushed in silver.
