I just ordered a 1/32 bearcat! I've got a wildcat, and hellcat in my stash in 1/32. When I wrap up current projects I'd like to build those three.

HI all just an update on how things are goin on the hornet nearly done now as regards the flightdeck i managded to get it glued down ok thank goodness as just a few more parts of P/E to fit TO S/S (IF I CAN) an this ship is so big i can hardly get it in the camera veiwer as if i try an get the whole ship in the detail wont be seen an a pic for you guys that are instrested in her

AN BEFORE i fit on the other small parts on the S/S an the B25 s i have decided just try on the 3 figter planes to proteck the ship in case any enamy planes comin in which case they were goin to push the B25 s over board to give room for the figters to take off to protect the ship an ive chosen 2 wilcat an a dauntless i think it is an these planes will be spotted on the deck in between the B25s

Your little airplanes look wonderful! They blend right in with this remarkable ship model you've nearly finished!
Best regards,
Kurt
HI Kurt many thanks for your nice comments on my ship an them planes but i would not want to build another the stress factor to build this has been off the scale

Question for you sir, you've made several comments about getting back to building planes- are you "Boatman" because you build boats or because you were in the Navy? I had thought boats were your specialty.

WELL Ron2 yes the ship was reasonablely ok as made in that normal grey plastic but fancy the makers makin them planes kits in glass plastic that was shiny an very difficult to get them to stick togeather an that was even when i had used a bit of smooth sandpaper top rough the edges up to hopefully glue ok but no an its was a great sauce of frustration to see a part just drop off or brake esp the undercart legs as this plastic was an is so brittle an fragile i only mandged to built this kit because im stubbon an wont give up on a kit but i came near to it as over the last 60 odd yrs ive built several planes an ship kit but nothing like this an i dint enjoy the build an yes some would have dumped it in the bin but not me if i can help it an yes as its near built now its lookin good an im pleased with it esp when i get the B25 on it BUT WOULD I BUY THIS KIT AGAIN NO ESP THE COST OF SAID KIT

I understand your frustration with those tiny planes! I've had a few, luckily styrene and not clear plastic on my last two boat builds. I used my knife to scrape off seems and ejection pin marks but wasn't about to try sanding the tiny little buggers! I had bought a few kits off a lady whose brother had died. Didn't really want most of these kits but they were fairly cheap and I thought I'd be nice and just take the remaining kits she had. Anyway, opened up the box the other day and thought of you!

NOW Ron2 to exsplain how i come to be called boatman well it steems back about 30 yrs ago to when i was in norwich model boat club as most of these guys have passed on now but what happen was i was scratchbuilding big 1/64 scale warships back in them days for R/C to sail on the pond as i had then a big scratchbuilt model of HMS YORK type 42 destroyer an a lot of people said it looks real on the water not bein big headed just a fact of the matter after a 3yrs build

an someone said what we need is an aircraft carrier in a fair size an one guy said well he's a boatman why not ask him to build one an i was knocked back by this as i dint think my models were good enough but they thought they were an i was a decent modeler still talking about this aircraft cairrer i said well i love to se a nice model of the USS NIMITZ in a fair size so they talked me into it

so i did a bit of reseach on NIMITZ as back then i did not have a computer but a freind did so he looked up about the carrier an told me what he found which was not a great deal so i said well id need a set of plans an my freind looked every where but no plans until about a few months an he found a place in washinton that did a set of plans for it but they were small an we asked the seller if its possible to build the ship off his plans an he said it was so he charged me 50 dollars an sent to him an the plans were for enterprise or nimitz so sent the dosh an back came the small plans so i took them in to a shop that did enlargements of anything an i though what scale as if to big a scale id never lift it so off to the model shop to see what planes were avalible in a small scale an i found that in 1/144 scale i could get all the planes by revele that i needed so to cut a long story short we worked it out the ship would be about near 9 feet long so i got the plans done at that scale an scratch built it after 7 yrs an i sailed on norwich pond a lot an it also got took up scotland in a big boat show up there with 400 models attending an my freind took it an came back with a trophy for best visiting model in the show which was a surprise to me an ive still got the trophy so after that i got CALLED BOATMAN WHICH HAS STUCK ALL THESE YRS SORRY TO RUN ON ABOUT THIS BUT THATS WHAT HAPPEN AN SHE GOT MORE TOPHYIES WHEN TOOK TO OTHER SHOWS AS GOT A FEW AN CHUCKED SOME AWAY AS GETTIN CLUTERD UP SO THATS IT
CHRISB

AN NO i was not in the navy although my uncle was a aircraft mechnic on enginse during the war on a light carrirrer cant remeber it name so i always liked the warships an navy also i like the big 1/32 aicraft for a rest from ship as they are so complex so aircraft for me is like a holl an i love to light them up ok
