Still not done, but making some progress on the WC-55 M6 Gun Carriage and crew.

... added hooks to top of gun shield: picked out stowage and crew equipment, some putty modifications ongoing, painted crew uniforms; still have to do faces and hands with oils.
I forgot how much scratch I'd already put into it!

Oh ya, primed, painted, weathered. Rope or straps to add as well.
Being here with all the types of models in one place i now see what military and aircraft builds are about. I never knew it took so much body work paint and detailing to make an airplane look right and real. The military stuff is the same but even more extensive in all the colors and textures and details found on the real vehicles, people and scenes. Now i understand the walls of paints putties and pigments. Carry on brother im looking forward to the progress.

Totally agree... what I appreciate is figuring out how to adapt the solutions/tools/materials I see developed in other areas, to fit my problem space.
Basically, problem solving is an art and a science in of itself, and so cool to get other perspectives!
Another thing i like about this site is seeing everyone's talents, i know it took years for you and these guys to hone your skills. Everyone's dedication is amazing. When it comes to what i do, when making a ground up build its having to look at the build for hrs, figuring what i have to do and making sure the next stage will work with what i havent even done yet. Most times i dont even draw much accept the foot print of the chassis as a passive jig to keep it symmetrical, and of course the first idea of how it will look. I build the bulk of an engine first then use that, the seat and a roll cage placed were i want them and start building up the rest from there. Its a lot of thinking measuring and fitting over and over so Im really glad the finishes are just basic pretty colors and chrome. 😌

There's quite a lot difference between the various kinds of (nominally) plastic modelling, IMHO, which means that if you're used to one then trying another may not necessarily be easy even though the basic skills are the same. For example, as a military modeller, I find aircraft slightly frustrating to build because half the work seems to go into the cockpit and (for radial-engined aircraft) the engine, and there seems to be no real progress until you've got those finished. Cars are even worse — you need to paint pretty much everything before you can start putting parts together, which for a military modeller goes rather against the grain: you build a tank basically by putting together as much as you can, leaving off only things that will be hard to reach with paint later. But on a car model, everything except the body is hard to reach with paint :)

Similarly, car modellers tend to be much better at spraying clean, tight finishes than armour modellers are — because military vehicles are usually matt and covered in dirt and grime, so they don't need a great finish, unlike car models. But adding that is a separate painting skill that not many car modellers seem to master, when it's common among armour modellers.

Obviously, just like I know car modellers usually spend a couple of hours putting together the tyres and then that time again painting them in a bunch of different shades of grey, black and dirt.

You should have seen my 2nd attempt, the first one went in the bin. By the time you have done the railings on the hornet you will be a master. Pantherman

I don't think you need worry about that. You have all the street cred any modeler could hope for; what's important is that you find some enjoyment in the build, otherwise, in my opinion, it is all for naught.
Cheers,
Brian
THANKS B/B but i admit im terrible on this p/e an no im not enjoyin fitting the p/e as its so fragile an a bugger to try an straighten out even with them p/e playiers that p/m bought me
so see how it goes tomrrow

I'm just about finished with the interior of the Beetle. View attachment 179543
The windows are going to be broken out or down, that's why it so weathered.
Still trying to decide whether to start the body, or do the interiors of the police car and truck next.View attachment 179544
I love the little wrenches in the back of the bug. Nice touch!

I also do not like working with PE. I built a New Jersey 1/350 that came with lots of PE. I tried but made a mess of it. I struggled to bend the pieces without breaking them or destroying them, and getting them glued in place didn't go much better. I was using Krazy glue and after I glued enough of the PE to my fingers I gave up on it.

I just started the Revell 1:48 B-1B. It had been on my shelf for about 4 years, and I finally decided to crack it open. I plan to build it in flight, so won't need to worry about aftermarket gear and weapons. I did splurge on the Reskit engine nacelles and Army Cast wing kit. Between the wings, adding some rivet lines and pulling the warpage out of 30 year old plastic, I suspect this one will take a while.

Boatman, I skipped alot of the PE that came with the Pontos upgrade kit for my USS IOWA build to keep my sanity.
I learned alot of the kit plastic and PE parts were pretty darn good in comparison once painted.
Remember we do this to have fun. :)
HI Kevin well i thought you did very well on your p/e from what i see so you skipped a lot of p/e then thats what im goin to do as yes for sanityies sake im goin to try some more on this p/e but leave it in brass so i can see what parts im tryin to fit then paint it if i can as some parts when fitted wont be able to get to them to paint oh dear
