Decals on and sealed. Next I'll try a little weathering.

... after futzing for hours, finally have the engine and cowling on.

The engine assembly and placement in the front ring was awful... no less than 18 little pipes that have to line up exactly in the cylinders and the ring... to make things worse, the pipes had to be cut from a resin tree and didn't appear to be identical.

I proceeded extremely carefully, then struggled as the engine seemed to want to twist in one direction.
After finally getting it together, and the glue set up, the prop shaft was off center!
Disassembled the whole thing, then fabricated the pipes from electrical wire: at least I could bend and twist to fit!

Of course the cowling ended up too tight, and the whole assembly would not fit properly on the fuselage leaving a gap. So I ground the inside of the cowling rim and the back of the engine for a better fit. (shortening the length and eliminating the gap)

Some more fill to sand tomorrow on the wings, then primer touch up and more very light sanding. At least that's what you guys seem to do with your planes!
Compared to armour, and automobiles, I get the impression that building a plane is more tactile, all about the surfaces, the flow and the lines. I do like it.

Holy crap that's more work than I'd be willing to put in. Make sure you get some close ups of that engine so we can see the work.

the cheap old kits
... I wish!
Once in a while I come across one, however, as my main shtick is WW2 North Africa and Mediterranean, I pretty much go with what I can find. Especially in the softskin vehicles... that's why my stash runs the gamut of old reliable Tamiya to resin, 3D printed and combinations of the above!
