...a little freaked out by the whole fuselage and wing fitment, and amazed that the halves have no registration points or divots; so adding my own tabs to hopefully coax it together aligned! have elastics and clamps at the ready, wish me luck!

IMO you are over-thinking it, I know you're not an aircraft guy, but this is overkill.
- Put glue on the entire mating surface.
- Stick the two halves together, carefully so they do not slip.
- Squeeze
- Hold for a minute or two
- Check for gaps or steps
- If none, secure with tape or clamps or both until tomorrow
- Inspect
- If you have issues address with CA or putty.
Of course this is advice from a dude who has issues with seams, so...YMMV!

Going to CAPCON IPMS show down the hill from my house tomorrow, then off for a brief fall foliage getaway in the Laurentians.
So we'll have to wait mid-week to see how it resolves!

I thought about trying that but I didn't want to take the chance it would ruin it. Pantherman
You might want to consider a lighter shade of blue for the wash, or a lighter shade of blue-gray.

I've seen a few of these blue planes done with a white wash. All the panel lines and rivets are white. While I won't say it looks bad, there is something off about it to me.

Instead of a wash maybe consider a light dry brush of a lighter blue or grey color to make the high areas pop.

I generally spray the first coat in the interior colour, maybe a second coat sometimes, then apply the top colour coats over the top. Pantherman

Well I'm done. Fun build. The academy kit was ok but had a few fit issues, nothing a knife and filler couldn't sort out. Pantherman

Well you're done...and done well!
One thing I can say about that Academy kit is how they put multiple versions in the same box, well, same box with different art on the outside
Mine had the single .30cal defense gun, but I put the double in there, just because I thought it looked better. I had some bits leftover, but see you used them on the underwing antennas (?), I had no idea what they were and scoured the destructions several times thinking I missed something.

That's how I'd do it. I hate filling seams.
Other than the bubbles under the "9" decal on the right side it's very nice, clean build, as I often prefer. I've only recently started to weather and age models. Are the kit decals a bit problematic?
They were raised bit's on the fuselage and the auto sol just didn't want to let them lie. Pantherman
