The Mirror Has Two Sides

Re: Odysseus Twins

Thanks, guys.
Although I'm afraid that, tomorrow, my Aves bucket and I are going to become good friends as we'll likely be spending a lot of time together.

Re: Odysseus Twins

A good update. My first scratch built model was made out of balsa wood. So I do understand about trying to scribe against the grain!

Oh and Aves has become my best friend on my build too!!!!

Re: Odysseus Twins

Thanks, John.
The seams on the "USS" hull aren't too bad. I got them knocked out tonight. As well as the ones with the struts/nacelles
The ones on the "ISS" hull....That's another story. It's also where the Aves is going to see a lot of use, as I mentioned in the video

Re: Odysseus Twins

I am with Quaralane on this one, I probably won't go back to normal putty after learning how to use this stuff. Just remember that water is your friend when working with aves..

Re: Odysseus Twins

everything but the kitchen sink going into this build journey !!!

(or have you just not started on that tiny sink yet ? ...lol)

J/k it's coming along nice , great work !

Re: Odysseus Twins

No kitchen sinks, RocketSilo.
They'd be too small to show on the model anyway. :p

And now, for chapter 17...
Today's work consisted mostly of seam filling.
We start with the USS Odysseus hull, built from the masters.
These seams weren't too bad. Light filling with Aves, followed by rescribing the hangar doors on the rear

Just some basic seam filling along the front edge with the photon launchers.

With the cast version of the hull, the ISS Odysseus, I had more work to do.
I built up the "stair step" on the back with Aves, being careful to keep the impulse engines clear.
odysseus-twins-61.jpg

As on the USS version, the main seam on the front was dealing with the area around the photon launchers.
odysseus-twins-62.jpg

Along with the hulls, I also filled in the seams on the strut/nacelle assemblies. With that done, I added the upper detail to both struts.

Re: Odysseus Twins

@Eastrock,
Tutorials? You must mean the "don't do it this way" stuff, right? :p

@Grendels,
Some touch up here and there, but yeah, paint. (assuming, that is, that the weather cooperates)

@Java,
Thanks

Re: Odysseus Twins

Looking great there Quaralane :) , its coming together well now ,I look forward to the paint too ;D

Chris.

Re: Odysseus Twins

Small update today.
Got the major sanding/filing done on the ISS Odysseus hull.

Then I turned to getting a coat of primer on the pieces.
Upper hull of the USS Odysseus turned out fairly well so far.
odysseus-twins-65.jpg

Nacelles and struts are looking decent
odysseus-twins-66.jpg

Upper hull of the ISS Odysseus is looking all right after getting the casting flaws mitigated.
odysseus-twins-67.jpg

The upper section of the ISS Odysseus struts is still showing some grainage from the balsa used in their construction.
I'm figuring I can use this as an area for untended battle damage.

Re: Odysseus Twins

@Grendels,
Actually my own fault. I didn't seal it well enough at first.

@MA101,
Thanks.
