The adversaries face off....

Patrick: I do have the Big G, mostly put together. I can start on seams tomorrow. These kits go together really well, just the seams are bad, but keep in mind that they are textured, which means I can hide the seams more than fix them. Sure on G's head the seams are bad, but they are not that bad. Some sanding and Aves and I will be good to go. I hope to have him done by the end of next week, and get started on King Gidrah by then. If I can keep this pace going, it will get done. The diorama is worrying me more than these two kits. It will be huge. Godzilla is about 7 inches tall, I am not sure about King Gidrah, but he is much taller. So take those two into account and I think the Diorama has to be at least 25 to 30 inches or it won't look right. I can't have them face to face, but need some distance between them. In addition, I will need a lot of trees for this one. So I will spend a week making little tiny trees. I will get my plan of the dio drawn out this weekend, and work started then. I should have a work in progress video up soon.

Oh and that castle, there really isn't much to it. There are 16 buildings to the castle, and each building is four walls and a roof. A good weekend build if I do nothing but work on it. And I am including painting time. Now if I detail it up, then it will be longer.......

That looks like quite a big project you have planned. At my pace, a project like that would take me all year.
I was wondering how large you think the base for the diorama will need to be?
I will definitely be following your progress.

As for the size of this diorama, Godzilla is 7 inches ( 17.7 cm) tall. Gidrah is much larger. So unless I want them fighting it out right up and personal, which I don't. It will have to be at least 25 inches (63.5 cm) across, more like 30 to 35 inches (76.2 cm to 88.9 cm). Depth will have to be close to the same. I am going to get it all planed out this weekend. I can only build up the models so far before I need to have that dio started, or I need to make cast of their feet. (They will leave foot prints entering the dio!, well King Gidrah doesn't need to leave footprints but Godzilla does.)

King Gidrah is 8 inches (20.3 cm) tall with a 17 inch (43.2 cm) wingspan. So I will have to have a pretty deep diorama to accommodated those wings.I also have to make room for that castle which will sit on top of a mountain.....

What really shocks me, is that along with this AWESOME dio You've decided to build a second entry!
Let me guess, You've been building time inhibitor to provide yourself 28 hours per day since the last contest??? ;D

Saw this and thought of you!

Nope! I have a three week vacation in May, and in June I have 4 day work weeks. This plus the extra month we have this year gave me the idea that I can get this done. I am starting on King Gidrah tonight. Still have the seams to go on big G (Most of Godzilla has been put together.), but I need to see the sizes of these two to plan out the Diorama.

Haggistom, nice photo!!!!

I am a long time Godzilla fan. Original only not the new incarnation. Glad to see you are doing a dio about it. Watch your vids on youtube and they are great. Inspired me to go out an buy a shuttle and 747. However i picked up the hasegawa kit, and my hobby shop assured me it was not that damn academy kit. However yours turned out great. cant wait to see the lizard take shape.

Perhaps we could have a contest to try to guess what Grendels secret entry could be. :D

All I know is that it involves anime figures, a can of beans and duct tape.

*shudder*

Thank you, that Hasegawa kit should be much better. Every model I have made from them has been pretty good.

These kits are indeed from the original movie series!!

Scary, but somewhat close, take away the can of beans..... Oh and the duct tape. But the plans are secret for now:

Looks like the "King of the Monsters" is trying to be one for you.

Should go fairly well, though

Thanks to all!! I didn't get a thing done on the big G today, but yesterday I got all of the sub assemblies done on Gidrah. So the two kits are at the same stage, seam filling. The good part is I made headway on those seams yesterday. Started to figure out what to do to fix them. A mixture of Aves apoxie sculpt and Mr. surfacer with a fine tipped paint brush......
