Got a bit of actual model building in tonight.

Love to add some wires to this - they look so cool in all your car builds. Not sure where they go, I'm far from mechanically inclined. Well, I guess from the distributor cap to the plugs...gonna do some Googling.
 
that seems a bad looking machine, kick some butt!! is it more like a dreadnought (death race) or Darkside from Twisted metal?
 
Big engines and big guns always go together perfectly. ;D
Nice progress Scott,yeah!.
 
May not look like much yet, Scott. But it's getting there. It's a start. Which every build has to have

Yeah ...we got engine building ;D ;D ;D ...Looks good scott ! ,i suppose it depends on weather you're putting a bonnet on ? ,if you are the wiring wont matter too much as you wont see it ;)

Had a bit of time today to tinker in the cave. After a cleanup and bit of setup I started trying to spray the Vallejo primer and Model Air line. After I get some thinner I'll start in on the Model Color.

Base coat for hairspray and salt rusting. - Just a test piece to learn to spray Vallejo.

I will be watching this part. I need to learn to rust things out. I want to build a model of my first car and she was quite the rust bucket!

It looks like it came out well ! What pressure to you shoot ? I'm sitting on th fence with gettin this Model Air. I love th fact it goes from Bottle to Cup !

Grendels - What was your first car ? I had a '66 Bug. I bought it for a 100 bux. it took 200 for it to pass inspection ... That was back in '86 ! lol
 
It was a 1972 Chevy Nova, with three different colors of green paint, and a gold fender. Fast as all get out though.....

I bought two 1970 VW bug's in a garage sale for $200 when I was in college. Both had their engines in the back seat. One weekend of work, and I had one running car and sold the other for $200. That was one hell of a fun car.
 
Well, I'm experimenting. I'm finding that low is best, like 10 - 12 psi.

Previously with other paint I'd have alot in the cup, tons of thinner and I'd pour left over back in the bottle - now with this paint I can't pour it back in and therefore only put enough in the color cup to do the job - which seems isn't enough to avoid sputtering.
I'll find a balance with it.

I like the paint. No fumes, easy clean up. Dropper bottles make for easy measuring. Great coverage, primer is awesome.
 
Is that a little BMW? Hey I hate to waste anything. I'd save that for a future junker if I were you.
 
Looks good on the AV Air paints... just wish its available here in our country, only the model color is available here but not all the colors are available and to top it all only one store sells vallejo paints and pigs..
 
Had another opportunity 2nite to work on this test piece.

First 2 coats of hairspray, then salt. The Vallejo paint comes off like a....breeze.

After that I played with some pigments. On the drivers side I put one thin wash using some AK weathering grime. Gonna let things set for the night and then maybe try another layer.

Honestly this is all the time I want to put into the test piece. I can spray the Vallejo well enough and really need to carry on with the build.

IMO the key to great rust is purpose, which this test is lacking. I just kinda scraped and banged on it. Without knowing how these cars really rust out it's near impossible to achieve a realistic effect.

But it sure is fun!
