Nice work J, I like how you've drawn in the shapes along the side walls for a guide. And the pre shade looks good it's only meant to give a subtle hint to depth don't get too bogged down with it!, looking forward to see that base coat ;D

Finally, PAINT LOL ;D

I'm 100% with MJ regarding the pre shading.

I did my base coat with a mix of tamya deck tan and white. It was ok but I was not totally satisfied with it. Some filters using heavily thinned oils (different greys, blue, some ochre) corrected that. What I learned: don't go crazy trying to find that perfect paint mix, just make sure you don't go too dark. Afterwards you can always tweak things to your liking, I call it manual photoshop ;D

Cheers

Big thanks for the encouragement guys, I'm glad to be moving on, the attached mandible in the last post had to be cut off....not the right angle....attached, then cut off again, but I'm happy now. I should be making the McLaren boxes to cover that hole on the top hull soon, then the docking rings

Looks just fine to me

Same here.

And to be honest, it NEEDS to be rough; it's the Millennium Falcon. The minor imperfections (can't believe I'm using that word) will help out in the weathering process.
Cheers !

Thanks Quaralane & Jurasikfrank,.....but I had to fix it

The mandible wouldn't close right to fit the sidewall because of the details i had scratched for the inside of the circular openings.
The mess was me trying to fill the gap with filler.....around the greebles....not good:

I gave in and cracked open the mandible, removed the wall and chipped away any parts inside that was fattening the mandible. I cleaned off all the messy filler and re-assembled the mandible, which now fits a lot better.

I'm gonna make the McLaren boxes tonight, then move on to the docking rings

Nice detail in that last pic.
Looks almost like a covered hydraulic for moving the mandible

Yeah Quaralane, I never thought of it that way, it does look like some sort of hydraulic muscle.

Started the boxes on the mandibles, these were just made from card (you can probably tell) these were my second attempt, the first just ended up in a gluey mess

Great work Jaitea, good call redoing the side wall assembly; the before and after picture proves you were right once again.
Keep following your guts, it's paying off.
cheers

I couldn't help it Jurasikfrank.....happier now

Thanks Quaralane,

It's good to move on to other areas of the ship now, I made both cockpit tubes on the same night, so they will be the same apart for the panelling.
