G'day folks.

Been a while since I did any armor, here's a little side project I got going on.

The box. One of Tamiyas older kits, but still has nice detail.

Interior detail is ok. Would this have been same colour as the exterior ?

Dry fit of it inside the hull. Fenders and attached with some of the tools and tool boxes

Dry fit of the upper hull.

That's it for now, this is a good little project to tinker with in front of the TV. Quite a bit more construction involved compared to the aircraft I usually build, so a nice change.

Thanks for looking :)

"Tamiya's older kits still stack up well" 8)

Main interior structure would pretty much be the same
color as the outside.

Thanks bdr, still haven't decided if I'm gonna go with the European theatre or Afrika corps colours yet.

Looks like a fun one rookie. Looking forward to your next update.

Quite a few ejector marks need filling. But for a kit manufactured in 1973 it's still pretty sharp.

Ready for some primer

Looking nice there Rook!! Looking forward to the prime-time!! ;D ;D ;D

A brave choice to bring this oldie to completion! Wow, this is an old kit! Still, I've done the same with some nostalgic old builds. Looking good so far!

Thanks guys.

Yes Gonna go for dark grey and try and muddy it up a bit. Will also try my hand at colour modulation, a first for me, but I think the grey lends itself nicely to this effect.

It sure is an old kit but younger than me albeit only by a year ! :'(

Tried my hand at some colour modulation using three shades of grey. Pics don't realy do it justice.

Question about the handles on the tools, would they be wood ?

Thanks for looking :)

Hi Rookie.
The Germans have an affinity for wood and would prefer to see an oiled wood tool handle than a painted one. Also paint dries out the wood, so an oiled handle will last longer.

Even today.

When I was in the military, for pioneering metal tools and tool parts painted, wooden parts oiled.

There are plenty of photos of German vehicles in World War Two showing they can be either way. Camouflage/survival can often outweigh the need for long lasting tool handles in times of war when vehicles barely lasted more than a few months.

Here is a still from a WWII German video which clearly shows a pioneer tool painted to blend in the with vehicle it is mounted on.

...and no, this photo is not 'colorized'.

Thanks for the reference pics guys. I think I may end up doing a combination of both.
