Grendels lighting Tutorials

I would say that any of them would work. Just read them carefully. One of the PS on that link was broken.

Also, LED's operate at 20mA or 0.02A. So a 2 amp power supply will light up 100 LED's. That is overkill if you ask me. But it will also give you room to play around with other things if the electronics bug hits you.

The PS I have only supplies 2A.

very helpful vids, Grendels. Thank you for sharing. Looks like your cats are interested in electronics projects too ;)

Yep they are. It is sometimes hard to keep them out of anything I am working on.

Next segments will be up very soon!

Here is the last segment on engine lighting. DO NOT BUY THIS:

Lighting tutorial: Engine lighting part 3

Here is the next segment: Soldering!

Make sure your solder is labeled for electronics! Solder for plumbing contains too much acid and can damage electronics.

Soldering 101

And a link to a few useful sites:

A good site with clear directions on soldering:

This site, while not clear does explain why you do each step:

Hi folks,

Well done on the vids G. Looking forward to your 'flashing vid', when you have the time to 'convert' your piece here, to vid (on it myself, but would still like to see your vid version).

I will have that timer video up in the next week. Probably this weekend. I need to find the time to write the script for it. I should have that time tomorrow. Once I have a script, then it will be easy to get it done.

Loving BG's vids, for those dipping their toes into electrons :)

As you may know, I am delving into PIC-programming, now, for my projects and, on my travels, I have been looking at, what I like to call, 'helper systems', such as the OS Arduino ...

Good vids, Grendels. As you know I used the 555n timer for my Maquis Raider build. I can testify as to its juice guzzling!

That 4060 looks like it has some uses. Certainly much easier to wire than the 555.

Much easier and low power to boot. It is a nice chip for model building. Cheap too! I just got some off of ebay for $0.50 each

link ?

also there was a ebay link to a LED ebaystore selling cheap cnat find it anymore

Can wait to see the next video !! Great work

Neo here is the Ebay store for the LED's:

http://stores.ebay.com/bestshop2008hk?_trksid=p4340.l2563

Search for the seller bestshop2008hk if the link doesn't work for you.

For the 4060 chip, what I did was an ebay search for 4060. Stick to the electrical and test equipment category.

Quite a few listings turn up. Just make sure somewhere in the listings it says binary counter and you will be fine. Here is one example:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-x-CD4060-4060-RIPPLE-CARRY-BINARY-COUNTER-IC-/260828020950?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cba8fc0d6#ht_1433wt_878

I have not purchased from them before, so I cannot say if they are any good. The one I did purchase from was here in the USA.

Some of the Chinese sellers will sell them for $0.30 each when you buy 20 or more. And they have free shipping!
