D-Day collective build?

Got the decals on the boat and did a little more with the water splash on the hull, just need to touch in the details when I'm done weathering the boat.

Think I'm having a bad weekend as the figures just look awful . Any suggestions welcome. I just can't get the eyes right.

The crew uniform is supposed to be done but just not sure. The rangers uniform is just base coated so hopefully they will finish up ok. The ranger in the water just looks wrong so a little help please. Pantherman

Decided to finish the weathering on the LC and I'm a bit happier with the crew.

Now going to consecrate on the infantry. Pantherman 20240321_202122.jpg20240321_202139.jpg20240321_202156.jpg20240321_202208.jpg20240321_202228.jpg20240321_202257.jpg20240321_202308.jpg

I have added the LC to the diorama and tidied up the water effects around it. Still not happy with the beach yet but will sort that out as soon as I can get some infantry built. Pantherman

Love the weathering on the landing boat!

Nice effects as well with the water splashes
Thanks, I was trying out a new method of washing and it's worked out much better than I thought it was going to.

Also first time I have tried water effects so pretty impressed with it.

Many thanks for your comments, much appreciated. Pantherman

First let me state that my model is not something new for this challenge, but I had to share.
The idea of a D-Day collective build is a wonderful idea...sorry I only just found this thread.

Second, I am not sure the photo shared by Mycatistypingthis is of the actual "Beer Truck" Spitfire.
That looks more like a posed fun photo, with pretend filling of a large fuel tank.
(The type not carried by Spits. I don't think)

I have different photos of the Beer Truck Spit, which i used for my own model.
Kegs themselves were attached to the underside of the wings.

And on that note, this is my Beer Truck Spitfire (as a paper model), shared here.
(Its a 1/32 paper model kit I sell)

I am also not sure, but the first delivery method I read about was in a fuel tank. The lingering fuel taste later made them use the method above.

I have been away for over a month, but have gotten a bit of work done. I'll make some new pictures sunday.

Between work and flight school I don't have much time for anything else.
I have not started the crocodile yet and haven't touched any of my WIP builds either.
Not sure when I will get a chance to do some work on them.

Life just takes up all the time you have sometimes. The builds will always be there and so will we. Pantherman

So I thought I'd better get back to work on this build. Infantry production now in full swing. They have so much kit but just need to get the figures built first. Pantherman

You've got a whole platoon there - cool - that's a lot of painting
27 to build, prime, shadow, face, hands and camo. And all the kit...... should be done by June I hope.

Then just the diorama to finish as not very happy with the beach part yet. Happy for any suggestions..... Pantherman 20240303_115544.jpg20240303_115609.jpg20240303_115655.jpg20240401_085529.jpg20240401_085553.jpg

the sand looks to smooth compared to the water I think. How about a small crater or 2? A sand fountain might tie it together with the water, but I don't know how difficult that would be. Even a crater on the beach might look good tying it all together

Hi! D-day will be 80 years ago come June, and I read about an idea for a commemorative build.

I really like that idea, and am going for a "beer delivery" Spitfire mk IX as well as a Tempest.

Would anyone else care to join me in this?

As proposed:
  • Any subject regarding the landing, preparations of the operation and subsequent days are allowed.
  • Due date is June 1st so we can compile the results.
  • If you can, a bit of story about the real people involved is really nice.
Are you starting a page to post finished work to?
