Burnt Umber or a darker gray for a wash?

I am looking for a suggestion on what color to use when I apply a wash(correct terminology I believe for this build). This will be after I dry bush some of the panel lines to make it look like it is worn down to the bare metal.
I am currently leaning towards burnt umber (artist oils in mineral spirits) to give it a very light rust tone to the model, but I am alos thiniking of a black or gunmetal to it. Any suggestions?

Not the clearest of pictures, I apologize.

Depends on what effect you're after.
If you're trying for a rusty look, the umber may be the way to go.

Of course, you could also play with using a bit of both styles for a varied effect.

On my Jilted Harlot build, I used a kind of rust colored wash to good effect
