Bismarck 1/400 Papermodel

Re: Bismark 1/400 Papermodel

I can't even imagine working with paper - I never seem to get anything straight or sturdy.

KUDOS Jim - great job so far

Re: Bismark 1/400 Papermodel

Working with paper scares me couse i smoke while i work on my bench. So its not my type i can burn the model and the entire home couse there is gasoline nearby too ;D Fallowing your progress is way better as you imagine. Good Luck!

Re: Bismark 1/400 Papermodel

Thank you Cash.

Well, finished installing the last bulkhead tonight. Need to let her dry, and maybe tomorrow can start on the main deck.

Looking great. That's a big model, impressive work man.

Re: Bismark 1/400 Papermodel

Thanks Scott.
For a ship the size of the Bismarck, 1/400 is as big as I want to handle right now.
In my gut I want to give one of the big battleships a go at 1/200 scale. Maybe the Yamato. Then figure out what to do with it after the fact. ;D

Re: Bismark 1/400 Papermodel

The 1/200 Yamato I was looking at was 4' in length.

Re: Bismark 1/400 Papermodel

Maybe sometime in the future, Derek.

So far today started on cutting out the deck panels.

Then proceeded to glue them together. Another good use for books, as a press to hold the glue joints flat while they dry.

Am just about ready to start applying the deck.

Next update should see the deck glued in place.

Thank you for watching.

Re: Bismark 1/400 Papermodel

I agree Patrick.
A ship model never really looks like a ship till the deck is on.
To me it is the first real milestone of a ship build.

Re: Bismark 1/400 Papermodel

Time for an update.
Have started on the hull panels.
First was to cut out all the panels and shape the step that is along the sides of the hull.

Next is to start gluing the hull sides in place. This is done methodically, attaching only a couple of inches at a time, in order to get a proper placement and fit.

Will repeat this process on the other side, then move down to the next panel.
