Lots of parts. Going to take me awhile I think.

Been working on the exhaust for awhile. The inside took a bit. Weird thing is I followed the instructions for the paint mix for the outside, 2 parts titanium gold and 1 part titanium silver, and it looked awful. It was very gold and no way that was right so I got out the Vallejo burnt iron and now it looks right

So I've run into a big problem with a part of this Tamiya kit. The decals that go on the piece behind the exhaust don't fit the curve of the piece. It's not me I had them in the right places, but there are all kind of folds and bubbles because the decals simply don't fit. I couldn't use them because I destroyed trying to get them smooth, which wasn't happening anyway. Not like a Tamiya kit. So I had to create a mask and use the best grey black I had to match the graphite colored decals.

Here are the decals for the second piece I didn't use. They have a graphite pattern to them which I can't replicate so I'm pretty bummed.

Got the wings painted. Interesting thing about this kit, the same blue is around the canopy and nose. Problem is it's a decal around the canopy with yellow trim. Sounds easier but even following the paint guide, the color isn't quite exact. I can tell the difference. I would just paint around the canopy but the decals have a yellow trim I can't replicate and also the pilots names are on the blue decals.

As Jakko said, custom tint the color. How long after the D models went into service are you shooting for with this bird? They were run hard, faded fast in the upbeat tempo of the world they were deploying to back then. Even a CAG or squadron leader bird showed the harsh shipboard life quickly…
