Help Support Scale Model Addict:

Hunting in the US and especially here in Wyoming is controlled by state game and fish.
I saw the tag on the horn of your picture. Notice mine shows the same.

These types of hunters support (directly) game management systems, it is a "tax" of sorts, but one most ethical hunters are ahppy to pay to support the wildlife.

Anyone seeking to wipe out a population of native game, pronghorn/whitetail/muledeer/mallard/mudcat/bluegill or a thousand other species will have to come though us first!

I am not happy that we, on an international forum, are arguing about cultural differences.
We should be discussing cultural commonalities, like our modeling.

I agree Bob t. And I will get back to building my 155 mm M40 as soon as I say this..(we're in the Chit Chat section, we're just chit-chatting)

I thought the comments were aimed at the member who had already left- he appeared to have ruffled some feathers with his judgments. I almost made a joke, "Hey guys you're going to make the Canadians nervous." But didn't because I didn't want it to be taken the wrong way. Hmm and now I've made the joke. Sometimes conflict can actually strengthen a group. I would like to move past bashing the guy who left tho and now we know we have some avid hunters on the forum!

Hey all. Sorry if I ruffled some feathers but I'm not going to have some ignorant fool who's brand new to The Forum sit there and call our members morons and try to shove his philosophy down our throats. If the majority of you guys think I said something wrong let me know and I'll take my money and my models elsewhere

Nah dude, you're good, hang out here with the cool kids lol. I appreciate you guys.

I will say that hunting & outdoor tourism is the single most sustaining thing of the Wyoming economy, apart from coal/gas/oil.

People come here from all over the world to hunt. Pronghorn, deer, elk, moose, bison, etc, all taste delicous, and hunting is vital to wildlife management. In Sout Dakota right now, they are debating on whether or not to give out free elk tags east of the Missouri River because their elk population is out of control. Wyoming has more Pronghorn than any other state in the US.

I'll also say that people who are anti-hunting, and yet eat meat from a restaraunt or from their supermarket and use goods from animals should rethink their mindset to put it politely. It's a nonsensical attitude that has little basis in reality.

In March I submitted for a pronghorn and an elk tag, should find out what the draw results are by the end of June.

I do some amateur leather work too. This is my wife's 22WMR, I did the no drill sling and other leather bits.

I've made a few knives too, here's just a couple. I skinned an entire pronghorn with a knife I made, which was pretty satisfying.

That one on the bottom is sweet! That looks like some pretty fine work. Nice. Now you got me in the mood to head out into the desert to my spot and do some shooting. Cuz I have a feeling here in Phoenix that in about 2 weeks it's going to get hot and the fire danger goes up and the no shooting signs start appearing. And then your regulated to going to Ben Avery Shooting Range or an indoor place and I'm not a fan of either one.

Hahaha! Talking about hunting culture, I doubt there are many families north of 42°N that don't have someone who fishes, hunts, or both!
Oh I was referencing our American tendency toward conflict. You guys are so nice and polite!

We have public land here you can shoot on from September to March, the rest of the year it's filled with campers and hikers. I have a local range membership though, it's just easier.

I don't have any problem with it. What the guy posted was rude and judgmental. I haven't hunted in years- would love to go for elk but i still get to fish occasionally. Caught three nice calico in SD bay last weekend.

Love the bottom knife! That's something I've wanted to try as well. Did you actually forge the blade?
No, I don't have the space or the equipment for that. Would be cool though. I purchased the blade blanks and all the other materials separately. Sort of like building a model. Just as easy to mess it up too lol. I watched a lot of videos of other people doing it first before I committed to spending money.

At least you don't have to worry about the carpet monster building a knife!

Among other hobbies not related to painting/art, I love listening to as well as playing music

I am a self taught guitar player, but have been playing since I was a freshman in High School back in '83

I had been in several bands over the years ranging from punk rock to acoustic bluegrass type stuff

Recently I picked up a Tascam digital 4 track recorder and have been doing what I would call "guitar karaoke"

I find backing tracks of songs that have had all the guitar parts removed, and do my best trying to add my own back in.

It serves as a way to learn to play the songs as well as fiddle around with the recording equipment to try and improve recording techniques and the resulting sound

Most are the bass/drums/vocals/piano/keyboards with 2 overdubbed guitar tracks

At any rate, to challenge myself I tried doing these songs. Not perfect copies by any means, but maybe not too bad either?

Ozzy - Crazy Train

and for reference, this is the vocal/bass/drums backing track used

REO Speedwagon - Roll With The Changes

Smashing Pumpkins - Hummer

And probably the most complicated and was the hardest to learn due to complexity of all the different parts and trying to play harmonies with multi-tracked guitars

Geneis - The Knife

How do you find these tracks? I've attempted guitar a few times but life kept interfering. I had thought of it again recently but thought what would be the point? Doing what you're doing would be a lot of fun though! Sounds great btw!

Thanks

YouTube is where I get them. Just include the keywords backing track in your search. For example something like "Led Zeppelin the rover backing track" and it will come up with it. They are great for playing along with, but sometimes can be a bit tougher than playing along with the regular song because there are no rhythm guide guitar tracks either. That's why I started recording some. That way I can play back muting whichever guitar track I am playing live.

Great way to have a feeling of playing along with a band without actually having a band

Recently been working on Dio Rainbow in the Dark and Holy Diver

Tresspass was a GREAT album!
Definitely my favorite Genesis Album, even over Foxtrot. Back in the vinyl days I would lay in a bean bag chair with headphones on after dropping the needle on side 2. Dusk, Stagnation, and the Knife was just such a perfect flow of songs.

There is a tribute band called The Musical Box. I saw them a few times. They recreate some of those early shows from that era. Also don't let "Tribute" give a cheap knockoff connotation. These guys recreate everything down to the vintage equipment, stage sets, and Peter Gabriel's various freaky looks and outfits. It is like being transported to a Genesis show back in the early 70s, not just some guys at a bar playing cover songs. They were so good that both Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins have said they were doing Genesis better than Genesis did. Genesis even gave them their old stage sets as well as the film reels used on the Lamb tour. Kind of serving as a living museum or archive.

I like Trick of the Tail too.
Yeah I'd rank that as my number 3 almost tied for number 2 with Foxtrot. Phil really did a great job filling in on vocals when Peter left and they also started to break into a less theatric direction. Phil was such an amazing drummer and the being able to sing on top of it
