Boatmans 1/200 scale USS HORNET CV8 BUILD AN LIGHTS for the Doolittle raid on japan

here a shot of all the main A frames fitted onto the hull an the smaller intermeidut frames to stop prop shaft wobble on these long shafts on these big ships

Next i was just lookin to see which prop shafts went where as the long shafts are fitted in the inner shaft place an the shorter fit on the outer placein an a shot of the rudder

Next was fittin in the long inner prop shafts an then the shorter outter prop shafts an they slid in easy wish they had been this easy on my big tiger build as i got a bit of trouble due to heat exspanshion when pourin in the resin as it got hot but got the shafts in ok in the end

an will fit on the props after all the red anti foul painting is done an here a shot of the cross members to hold up the hanger deck AN ANYONE KNOW THE COLOUR OF THE HANGAR DECK FLOOR ?

Hi Chris.
Looking great so far.The Hangar deck floor would be deck Blue and surrounding walls etc would be white.Hope that helps mate.

Hey Boatman; Your name is Chris? I would like to inform you of some more specific colors of the hanger deck. According to White Ensign Models the hanger deck is # 20 standard Deck Gray (US 02); the hanger walls, and bulkheads s/b 5-U White (C-03). In Vallejo language that would be Dark Sea Blue FS36099 VA 70.867 or71.053; and 70.820 Off White FS227780.

You are actually into the build; congratulations I'm organizing as I make room for my small 30" CV-8

Hey Chris Here is A reference which you may already know about , or you may not be interested. Davidsscalemodels.com, David does commission work, and he is good. In 2021 he built a CV-8 based on the Doolittle Raid. The was in the days off only 350 scale. but he did run lights. It might be worth a look!

If you go to his web page, you will find the 350 Hornet lined under "Build", and there are a bunch of photos in the gallery.

HI GUYS well now tryin to find the WATER LINE on the hull so had to put a spirit level on the hull to make sure its level so when i draw the pencil line on the hull for the waterline it wont be a case of one higher than the other they will both be level

THEN Usein a bit of block balsa with a pencil throught it sqauqly at a inch an a half height i just drew the block balsa along the hull an to get the W/L level line on both sides correct

hull all smasked up to spray the redoxide anti foul an the camera makes it look a bright red but its not its rather a browney red in next pics

The Hull looks great. That is a lot of paint! It will be a while before I can get to any painting. I have 5 house projects to complete, plus I have this Sherman tank project on the side.

OH thats a dissapointment Sailor as i thought you would build your hornet along side mine
