Congrats on a very ambitious project!! I will certainly be following your progress especially once you begin incorporating the B-25s. There were 16 B-25s successfully launched on April 18, 1942 for the raid on Japan by Doolittle. Perhaps an 84th Anniversary of that historical event for a completion date???? Too much??

HI Holz44 yes it is an ambitous project but i love the challanges i get from buildin big models as they show loads of detail on the models an glad you told me sir how many B25 there were as i thought there was 14 of them an yes you maybe lucky to see it on the aniv on aprill 18th next yr we will see as there are loads of parts to fit on her but firstly ive got to sort out the hull an get them portholes all drilled out an the hull all rubbed down an then painted so yes you maybe lucky lol
ATB SIR
chrisb

HI GUYS well i made a start on the hull as thats the first thing to do an ive drilled out 107 portholes an the same number to do on the other side of the hull but had to have a rest for the ole eyeballs lol
so i will finish the other side tomorrow then i will have to use a pionted grind stone on my mini dremel to tidy up the portholes as some are oval anyway some pics first shot the big hull IMG_1030.JPG

The hull doesn't have the huge hull plates molded into it like on the 1/350 scale kits. That is a huge plus.

HI Scottc78 nice to hear from sir an why is it a huge plus ? is it because the 1/350th hull plates are over scale ?
chrisb

Yes, the plates are way over scale and in my opinion, makes the hull look like a tank instead of a ship. Many of the build logs on line I watched show the modelers sanding them down, which take a lot of time ,and then replacing them with accurate plates made from very thin styrene, card stock, or they scribe them. Your 1/200 scale kit is nice and smooth, it looks like a blank canvas, which many of us like to have since we add so much of our own aftermarket and scratch built piping and other hull details, including scale plating and try to simulate "oil canning" effect.

HI again Scottrc78
well i wont be trying anything like that as to me its goin to be a hard job just tryin to build this ship but thanks for your reply
chrisb

SORRY i asked this on kevins site but i ask again could you please post a link to that hornet build as it may help me
cheers sir
chrisb

I'm really looking forward to looking at your posts and following along with your build!
HI WtShark glad you will be followin along on my build of this carrier an yes i'll make mistakes but dont we all so see how i get on as ive done all the portholes in the hull an now goin to try an fit the tiny bilge keels as on my big 1/72 scale hms tiger they were about an 1/8th thick so i could drill them out to fit steel pins that than fit into the hull so the b-keels dint get knocked off but i havnt actually looked at the one for this ship yet will do tomorrow but wheather i can do this on these may be to small an ive got to figure out what im goin to light up

I wouldn't worry too much about mistakes, I think we tend to be far more critical of our own builds. Have fun, and don't let a small mistake ruin it for you. That's my motto anyway... and what my wife tells me when I have a meltdown over a small smear of glue or put the wrong part on.... LOL :D

thanks for the link sir an yes my missus jen says i get to critical when im tryin to hard as thats when the shakes hit an she then hold my wrist to keep me steady to do a very small part an it a success cheers sir

HI guys SORRY for not posting any updates on this model as been busy tryin to fix a blooming great dent in my car door as hit a metal post on a car park in the dark evenig but its all done now thank good ness so now i can get back to the hornet build
chrisb

HI GUYS well im back on the hornet an no ive not done much today as got freinds comin so jen has called me downstairs to see them an not bein rude by stayin upstairs urg but at least ive fitted two parts an they are the rear bilge keels as there are 4 on the model but they are very awkward to fit even with the pins ive left on them as they must go on at a 45 deggree angle an the main front ones are to be curved so had to pack up now as they will take qiute a bit to fit but on the rear ones they went on fairly good as makers have put some marks on the hull but thats about all so ive have drilled out some over sized holes for the bilge keels pins to fit in the hull will fit the front ones tomorrow an now some pics
an here the small rear ones IMG_1031.JPG
