The Beginnings...

The kiit

Out of the box this kit is impressive. Some good detail in the parts and the etched lines and details are not canyons or sinkholes.

First thing is though, I am finding I just cannot stand molded in surface detail on the interior surfaces. So that just had to go away.

With that out of the way the voices began to scream at me. So I rough cut some interior bulkheads.

And the rest...well....it still is all together.

I did draw a bit on the fuse sides. Just in thought.

I warn you, if you like Trumpeter kits, this may not be a pleasant build for you to watch. The voices are guiding me and they want me to be brutal.

First Cuts:

The voices....they scream at me.......the voices.......

It is their fault. I do not know what happened. The kit was fine and then well.....

Good Lord here I go again.

Before....

Well nothing left to do now but finish the job. On to the tail section. Guess I will have to cut it out and do my thing there as well.

The voices.................they call for more......................

Till the next time I guess........

Those are some interesting voices you have there. It will be interesting to see exactly what it is they are saying to you.

The voices can be difficult at times. They say to chop up a perfectly good injection molded kit and they refuse to be silenced. But then again even when I have followed their directions and failed the journey has been a blast. Sometimes it is a whole lot of fun to just go a little crazy.

It is the journey rather than the destination that is the most fun.

Joe

So do I.

Well just an update to show you I have not fallen off the Earth and that I am still working on this.

God the mess.

What has taken my time over the last week.

The wing framing.

Slow and steady for sure but the results are interesting.

A very cool (and very ambitious) build. I'll be following along.

Jason

Many thanks.

Now....

Today was a long day.

I started my grand experiment at about nine this morning and crawled away from the bench at about six tonight.

What did I accomplish? Not much.

I spent most of the day building up and then tearing down.

Here is the point where I walked away.

I have a cast wingtip for the wing. I have my third or fourth (I cannot remember which) rendition of the wing ribs. I have replaced one of the spars for the wing and cut another to fit the wheel well. I have begun to mock out the framing to see how it will work.

So in nine hours I have got this.....

Wing-Frame-4_zpsb49dd095.jpg

That is where I needed to crawl away. I just needed to put it down for the night.

Maybe tomorrow.

I did it again.......

I did not like the way the wing frame was looking. It just was not coming together like I wanted it to.........

so......

I tore it apart and redid it yet again. (fourth time) I also redid the wheel well. (third time)

This time I did something just a bit different from the previous attempts.

Wing-Frame-7_zps9bf07ccf.jpg

Slotted so I can work with it. I can put it together or take it apart to add the detail or whatever. Much happier with this.

Now for the overall show of what I have.

Wing-Frame-9_zpscd48ba7f.jpg

Wing-Frame-8_zpsf7457c3a.jpg

And the leading edge is almost ready to work with.

Wing-Frame-5_zps5d72cd5c.jpg

So there it is to this point. Hopefully I can move forward now. I am much more comfortable with the framing like this. I need to punch out the lighting holes and add the detail but at least I can move forward now. (I think)

this is looking like quite the adventure gotta see where it goes now :)

I am in the same boat. It is fun to take on the challenge.

Well just to show I have not forgotten this build.

I am progressing but quite honestly a snail would do laps around me at this point. To bring everyone up to speed....

-Lightening holes are finished.
-Major details are nearly done. (Large rod sections)
-Most small details are near complete including some "wiring" and mechanisms for flap cables.
-Wheel well nearing completion.

Pictures...

I still have a bit to do to the wheel well and just a little more to the details on the wing framing. I need to fashion how the tip will fit in and how the whole wing will attach to the fuselage. Oh and the small detail that nothing is glued yet.

Wow so much work for so little actual progress. BTW that is the fifth rendition of the wheel well.

An Update:

Well lookie here. NO PINS!!!!!

Yep that is right. The pins are gone and the framework is glued.

It is not finished but it is all one piece now.

Now what is left.

First I need to build up the framework for what I believe is a radiator.

What-Next-2_zpsdbcab7ce.jpg

Also I need to figure out the attachment point for the landing gear.

What-Next-1_zps3583fe31.jpg

There you have it. Now for most this is not a big update, for me it is a big milestone. A first. I have a complete wing frame that I can move forward with.

Productive day on the 1:24 109. Well it began last night with a start on the Wing Radiator. Then today I went through to try to get the radiator in the right spot, success. I then pulled it all together and thought why not, mock it up, see what it looks like.

Well.............here it is..............

The wing radiator..

I ran into an issue with the well that the landing gear goes into. I had to redo it a bit.

Wheel-well-2_zps7b5287e5.jpg

And now the way the wing looks at this point. It is not glued in but it is pretty stable.
