The Nylon Gag MK.2 F1 Magneto Skimmer

Ello Folks,

Been at the bench since 10:30 am, got quite a lot done today.

Sava look then.

Sanded back the red filler in the week and gave it another smear with the squadron putty,

Picture%2520212.jpg

Picture%2520217.jpg

Cut a hole in the detergent cap,

Picture%2520218.jpg

Soldered and installed 6" of white LED tape,

Picture%2520219.jpg

Hooked up to a 9V battery

Picture%2520221.jpg

Then started to blend the inner structure piece to the engine cover,

Picture%2520227.jpg

Punched some holes,

Picture%2520229.jpg

Picture%2520231.jpg

Then it was back to the main profile, first i finalised the width with spacers,

Picture%2520234.jpg

Got creative with my heat gun and a clamp, to even up the plan view of the nose section

Picture%2520237.jpg

Cut notches in the sides of the tub

Picture%2520241.jpg

Dry fit everything together,

Picture%2520242.jpg

After much fiddling about with the profile and the final position of the cockpit tub, did a mock up with cardboard and tape and the windscreen blank in position and the top intake.

Front,

It's still very rough but I'm getting there, It looks a bit too 'A" wingy to me. so i'll have to try again.

What do you guy's think of the profile?

Till next time,

Take care

Gag

Excellent update. Profile reminds me of a type of water fowl, Herring or Cormorant. Long bill designed for precise plucking of small fish from the water.

eh up buddy,i love ya profile mym8,i know what ya mean about the A wing thing but with some front fins and ya paint sceme will pull ya away from that!the only thing is the engines seem to short in comparison to the nose?but that`s just me...i love the look of it all the same..cheers peza ;D

Looking good - reminds me a bit of an anteater :)
Sorry, joking aside ...
Compared to the scetch on page 1, the nose appears shorter, and more curved, while the body looks more compact - which then reminds a bit of an A-Wing.
Not sure what's better, but maybe a longer, bit straigther, stramlin-ier(?) nose - from the scetch I had the impression the top was almost flat, while the buttom was the curvy part, coming up....
Not sure if my babbling makes sense - sniffed too much plastic glue today :p

Looks excellent man. I really love the LED strip, never knew such a component existed, but that looks really useful for models.

You should play the Wipeout XL soundtrack while building this.

Love it mate!!! I honestly don't see it the same way as some of you; it doesn't feel like an A-Wing to me. If anything, it could be a battlestar gallactica mach IV's (i think) cousin. Anyway, peza's right; the color scheme and your greeblish style is gonna dissipate an resemblance.
Bring it home Gag! ;D

Glo - f - dude

Never would of never seen the profile as a bird mate, thank you for the fresh perspective, i usually always think in an engineering terms, but i'm a big fan of nature, who isn't ;D

Thanks

Keep sniffin baby,

Let me show you some other concept images i was using for inspiration mate,

This might explaine my choises, plus i wanted it to be closer to an F1 car than the original concept art, I always liked Mickael's car from 2000 with Ferrari for the basic profile.

Thank you for stopping by mate, greeblies, not as many as last time but i do want some, but F1 is normally fairly Greeblie free, so it's a bit of a dillema.

Colour, thats an entirely different Bannana.

Might be a vote,

Might be a prize

Stay tuned

Very cool building. I see the A-Wing influence for sure but its not a copy cat by any means. Too me, honestly, the nose curves down a bit much but i know you still have work to do.

Great update!
Also nice to see you're free styling too - let the project lead, not the plan.
Great detailing ;D

Evenin all,

Hope everyone has been having a good weekend,

Me, I got 3,1/2 hours in yesterday and about 6 hours today, I've been keeping track and I've reached 100 hours on this project as of 1;15 pm today.

I think progress is going quite well, problems seem to be solving themselves as I go. Gotta love freestyle baby.

It's also inspiring to have you guys along for the ride, not sure where we are going to end up but it should be fun.
Thanks for your comments, greatly appreciated

So...................

Added some more bracing under the front section off the engines

Picture%2520369.jpg

Did the same for the rear basic frame work

Picture%2520372.jpg

This is all to support the undertray

Picture%2520373.jpg

Which was scored and folded and will be fixed in position later

Picture%2520377.jpg

Undertray taped in position

Picture%2520379.jpg

Cut out the front section of the side pod

Picture%2520389.jpg

Removed the bottom of a razor packaging piece, this is my directional underside magneto power neon pulse vent.

Picture%2520393.jpg

Wanted to do some greeblie work on the internals of the underside vent assembly's, so, I got two of these from the local supermarket for $12 each.
