The adversaries face off....

John.

1. You are one hell of a modeller. The effort being thrown into this build is immense.
2. The method you're using hit the nail on the head. One suggestion though... Try sanding away some of the detail you are removing so it creates less of a hump, other than that, it's perfect!

echo....Echo.....echo.........LoL

John, you will soon write a book on the Thousand uses you got from experimenting with AveS....

GRENDELS,

Rockin right along Dude !! Lookin' great. Awesome Job on that skin technique !! I'm lookin forward to seein this finish out !!!

CHEERS !!

This is really looking fantastic. I've sat here and watched the videos thinking... "how would I tackle this problem?" Aaaaaand I got nothing. Just a bunch of crickets chirping in my head. Keep it up. Godzilla looks a beast and no seams... amazing!!

I watch the second Godzilla movie on Netflix..... Those big zipper seems are quite obvious

And there is some high lights on the Ridges of his spine.... Things! LOL

And I saw one of those Castle..... Really cool to see it all connecting to your Dio!

Should be pretty cool! And Big! Judging from King G. Wings! Wow!!!

--shakes head--
You're far more patient than I would be with those seams, John.
Looks like you're getting some nice progress now, though. Hope your latest technique gives you the results you need.

As the end of the contest draws near, I am beginning to wonder if I can pull off this King Gidrah. The seam work is very, very slow. I know I have 21 days left, but we will see. I still haven't give up all hope. 14 days from now if I don't have him done, I won't have time to get him painted. So the clock is ticking!!!!

I have made progress. The legs are done, with seams and textures done. The body will get tackled this weekend. The wings are close to done. I decided to start over on their seams tonight, so I have to fill off some detail and mold it back on.

I have one tail done with the seams, the other tail has broken into pieces repeatedly. So I filled it with Aves and pinned the pieces together with copper wire. Holding together very well now. So I can begin to cover up the seams on it this weekend.

I still haven't figured out how to cover up the circular seams around the necks. But once I get that straightened out, I can start to put her together and think about paint.

I have some alclad brass paint for him. I have been reading up on how to use it. Anyone recommend a good glossy black paint to put down as a primer?

Mothera is almost done! I have a tiny bit of sanding to do and then pre-shading.

Military101, Norm: I have refined this method a bit more. It takes very little aves to form a skin now. So you don't see a hump to it.

Panzerace007, SLW45: Thank you!!

Myke: I have spent plenty of evenings thinking those very same thoughts...... How do I do this?

Norm: I will hit up the Big G this weekend with some highlights. It all depends upon the movie you watch on whether G has highlights on him or not. (Sometimes it even changes in the one movie you are watching.) I am just going to paint him up the way I think he should look! The spines will get highlighted!

Quaralane: Patience is one thing I have a lot of. Try teaching physics to college students some time........or even worse statistics. Either of those phrases can make a persons eyes glaze over.

But my degree in physics has taught me to take an analytical approach to problem solving and that has been a big help on this build!!

Good to hear you have things.... under control ! 8)

as for the ALCLAD.... the GLoss black is to permit the SHINE of the Alclad Base to pass through
the Smooth Glossy surface does enable the Coloured Alclad to be at its maximum....

it really pays off with their CHROME !!! when you see it start appearing.... its like magic !!! WOW !

I recommend either their own Brand....ALCLAD BLACK PRIMER its' a very very "shinny" Black... very watery to ! so you must BUILD up the shine... it is almost transparent... but has a superb finish ! once its build up on your model....

If you don't have the money for that !!! You can go with an ENAMEL Black from Testor or Tamiya !!! The Tamiya Rattle Can ( Gloss Black ) especially ..... They will also work !! But I usually keep Brand name together... for maximum compatibility ! But I know they work... so your call !
and don't Thin your Alclad !!! pure in the AB and let the magic happen!!!

Your Brass colour will also need to get build up .... if you Spray too much too fast... it will turn DULL !
or RUN !!! take your time... it needs a Bite coat..... and then a GLOSS GOAT or WET Coat !

Got to their web site... I think they have Demos !!!

Still we got 3 weeks left for the contest to end!!! well the pressure is really slowing creeping.

atleast you got some plan on finishing the King, you really got tons of patience.

Norm: I will stop by my LHS on the way to work today and order up some of that alclad black. If they have the tamiya gloss black in rattle can I might get that instead. I am just worried that the Alclad won't arrive in time......

Eastrock: Thank you. I don't think I would have put this kit in the contest if I knew how much trouble it was. I have a mechagodzilla model as well and it would have been much easier to build than this one. Much easier.....

Your model is turning out to be quite a piece, and I'm pretty sure you'll meet the completion date.

On an off note;

My computer isn't what it used to be, so I can't watch any of your informative and entertaining videos for more than ten minutes. To get around this, I've been recording elements and playing the sound while I work. I must say, I believe I've memorized some of your videos already!

Oh, by the way, nice work with that Aves! :D

well you are almost there and its much fulfilling to see your the fruit of your labor...

GRENDELS,

As per Norm's suggestions on ALClad - I'm recently in discussion with a couple of Guys Here's what I've found ....

If you can ... Prime with Their Black Primer , Gloss Black Base , Chrome. ALl are thin enough to shoot straight from Bottle to AB. Also ... You are gonna want to shoot it @ 12-15 psi. Keep it to thin misted coats. The Bronze color - if you go with a Black base , it'll be darker, you may want to change it to a Chrome base - But .. according to an AlClad rep - you will want to cover that with an Acrylic Gloss - I ordered Their Aqua Gloss Clear , not sure how Future will react. The Idea is to put a Glossy Acrylic barrier between th 2 lacquers colors.

Think of the Gloss Black as the back side of a Mirror , the Chrome will "bounce" back & really Shine !!! I should get My shipment of AlClad tomorrow. I'm gonna do some test shots.

Check this thread out - http://www.scalemodeladdict.com/forum/index.php/topic,2992.0.html

I'm lookin forward to seein th results !!!

Looking forward to see what comes out of this....ALclad experiment....
I thought "King G" was more of a gold color.... But hey! brass is pretty shinny to!

I broke my piggybank and got that Statue of Godzilla and King G all wrapped up which I shared with you...earlier... I'll be taking notes of your project to help me with those two, when they show up!..... I will need all the expertise on how to fix Monster skin.... With this huge resin statue....

Can't wait to see your final seam repairs look like! And nice idea to fill the tails with AveS and pin the parts..... I am almost certain they won't budge after that!

Anyway.... Keep up the good work John! Keeps us inspired!

HEY NORM ,....

Brass ....ermph .... My Bad ... I guess I misread somethin .... Gold it IS !!!

;D Sorry 'bout that !

I shoot Alclad over gloss black and gloss white to get slightly different shades on the same model. Well brightness would be a better way to describe it. It looks brighter over the white. The hard thing about using a white primer is that it can be hard to see where you've already painted the Alclad. At least that was my experience with the aluminum colors.

G as the seams on Giderah are holding you up have you considered covering some of the worst with some "battle damage". might want to try some aves and sculpt some gashes on the neck pieces that are giving you heck. Also have you thought about carving the lost detail directly into the plastic with a warm knife? if Giderah doesnt make it in time i am hoping that it will be Godzilla vs Mothra? That would make for a great diorama as well. Having mothra spinning a web in Godzillas direction would be cool. Keep up the good work. In regards to the highlights you are right. in the movies Godzilla is a single tone, but it is highlighted by lighting effects etc. I would just do a light one to bring out all that detail. Again great work and love the vids. Look forward to seeing the next one.

Sorry for the delay with a reply. The Thursday to Friday time period is always very hectic for me and I can't always find the time to sit down and check messages......

Norm and Panzerace: First, Erik, I have been following that thread because I planned on painting this beast up with the Alclads. Thank you for sharing the link here! It saved me the trouble of explaining my process, and will help those that don't know a thing about Alclad's like myself!

I think this is how I am going to approach this:

Primer her up with rustoleum white primer. (which feels much like the Tamiya fine surface primer when dry)
I ordered Alclad gloss black base, so then I will give her a coat of this
I ordered Alclad's aqua gloss clear, so she will get a couple of coats of this.
And for the final coat, I have both Brass or pale gold to choose from. I didn't know which color I would like to use, so I just went out and got both of them. I will take a bit of sprue and give it the above treatment. Shoot it with both metallics and then decide which color to use from there. I also have some Model master metalizers on hand if I don't like the alclads.

Thank you both for the advice!!

Fruit: I usually try to keep my videos to 10 minutes, you just gave me more incentive to keep it that way.

Thank you Eastrock!!

ShutterAce: I took your advice into account when I ordered the gloss black base. She was molded in the color I want the model to end up with. After looking at both the brass and the pale gold, I decided I wanted to darken them up a bit.

Noc56459: I considered this for a bit. There are far too many seams for me to get away with that. I will have to just fix them all!! But if I have one stubborn seam that won't just fix, I might give that a try there. I do plan on having a bit of "battle" damage on the dio. Scorch marks and that sort of thing.

I do plan on having a few of Mothra's webs about the dio.....

Ace of spades: The aves is just easier to work with. Seam filling is fast and easy for me now. It was one of those things I dreaded in the past.
