The adversaries face off....

Perfect SBS on the roof! Great technique and you did nail the color and variations! Thanks!!! ;D

Norm: I put a primer coat on Godzilla yesterday. I found two spots that need to be fixed and then one more primer coat.

He will get a base coat of dark grey. The suit was charcoal grey, and I couldn't find that color, so I took a charcoal brick to the hobby shop and color matched. (I am a nerd ::) )

One done, dry brushed with a lighter grey. The fins on his back worry me a tiny bit, because there is a gradual transition between grey and white, but silly putty might work for that.

Thank Q

TRM: Thank you for the kind words!!

Nice work Grendals,

You thought about painting the "rocks" a base colour, adding a wash and then paint a tint of the other colours to break up the base colour - Sleepy Lefiel on YouTube had a build of a japanese castle - I think they went down that path - seems easier and quicker ...

Keep it up mate

Hey you've said it !!! but aren't we all ??? ;D

so.... if I get you right.... You are after the STUDIO LOOK !!! not the movie look ?? right ?

which could explain a lot !!! You seem to have put a lot of efforts in your Research !!!
and you still want to start and finish your Second entry ??? You are quite the man !

You did quite good on those windows.... that stuff works great... but I always found
the Film... Rubbery even dry !!! don't you agree ?

but it beats cutting little pieces of Clear polystyrene for sure !

Take care and can't wait till your next update !

Hi, Grendels!
Great work here!
And besides everything, I'd like to encourage You on continuing that detailing painting of the castles foundation with lots of color touches on the stone: it is a timetaking job, but man, its worth it 100% and even yet unfinished it looks just amazing, very realistic.
Excellent work again, keep it up, friend! ;)

I did think about that, and then decided not to. After a week of painting, I wanted to scrap the whole thing because I thought it looked bad. Well it actually came out great!! Video on that later....

Norm: I am actually going to post the second entry later today. I started on it on Friday and I am about 25% done with it. It is going very fast. Much faster than I expected.

Yes I am going for the studio look. I could never tell what color Godzilla was. It seemed to vary from movie to movie. So I just looked up what color the suit was.

I haven't touched it once it has cured. So I am not sure how rubbery it is. I do like the end results though. I don't think I would try this on a large window however. Too many imperfections....

Solander: Don't worry I kept it up. I didn't paint all of them, but most of the rocks in the photos were near the same color so I think it came out very well.

Here is a very short update:

Quick Tip: Removing parts from Sprue

It is about removing parts from the sprue. Since I used the castle with this, I am posting it here. Tomorrow I will have an update on King Gidrah. Not very exciting, it details out what I have been attempting with the seams.

Work is coming really great.
If you can try for the Tamiya paints Mr. Leveling Thinner or Tamiya Lacquer Thinner. Using those allow to achieve a very smooth surface.
Cheers
Lukasz

Buskup: I have some of the Tamiya Lacquer thinner on order. Here in the USA Tamiya has a label problem, and everything is on back order for a while. I am eager to give it a try!!

Here is the next update, a video on my trials with the seams...... and King Gidrah

King Gidrah: Seamzilla is back......

These vids you are doing with Aves is awesome. You are really taking out the trial and error for me when I go to use some. And I did go buy some btw after seeing how plyable it is. I've used green stuff and milliput before but looking forward to working with some Aves. I have two uses for it on my current build.

Thanks a million, and keep up the good work.

your castle is moving along nicely. enjoyed the painting vids, they were a great help. can't wait to see Godzilla in his paint. very curious about the polar bear. Are you going for a "Cyber Polar Bear" or something like that?

Duuude! Looks like there is absolutely no technic of working with Aves You didn't try and show us yet.
Great job here!
Keep it up, I'm 110% certain You would figure out how to cure those last seams on King Gidrah. Btw, great looking jaws You've painted for it - really impressive and natural.

;D Well.... is AveS your friend... or not ? :'(

Nice to see you try and try again..... at getting those Darn "Fish Scales" replicated !!! Not easy....HEY ! I am starting to Feel your pain !!!

I really think you are on the RIGHT track though !!!

(Me !) I would start over... a new batch of skin patches that is.... using the same MOULD !!! The mould you did out of that Oshimoru is Great... Curved and all !!!

I would smear a little "Vaseline" on my Finger (after you put the AveS in the mould) and press down "hard" and get the excess AVES to Ooze out and leave just but a FILM of AVES in your moulds !!! Something you will be proud of !!!

Vaseline won't affect AVES curing ! and can be washed off your parts with Rubbing Alcohol and paper towel afterwards. A light sanding will improves adhesion... Vaseline will give the AveS a shinny smooth surface... which is good while sculpting figures and such... but roughing it up will help C.A. make a good bound with the styrene!

The nice thing about your Castings... is you can Cut along the edges of the Scales... There almost no needs to blend the two parts together .... almost !!!

By replacing SKIN !!! you would need to BUFF down (sand down) the originals first... to prevent a HUMP !!! cause, if you don't !!! you are actually double layering !!! which could get picked up as a HUMP!! and basically you don't want that !!!

just saying... !!! Looking forward to your Final FIX !!! I know its hard ! but John ! if someone can fix this... its YOU !

Norm.

OUT !

You are welcome Myke. I have never worked with either one of those before, so I couldn't comment on them, but with what I have learned about Aves, I think I am going to just stick with it. And not try something new.

No cyber polar bear. I will post an update as soon as I have enough footage to make a video. Most of it is still in the camera.

Thanks Military....

Quaralane, Schweinhund227:

Well yesterday a I had a thought, and gave it a try. I found my solution. I don't quite have it perfected, but it was the best try so far. It doesn't produce a bulge, and it replicates the scale pattern just fine. It is basically a modified version of the monster skin that Norm showed me how to do. I don't think that this would work with resin, only with Aves. I will get an update posted soon.

Speaking of updates, I will get a castle update posted later today.

Glad to hear... you came up with an Hybrid solution !!!

and will be waiting to see the results... ( in the end )..... those solutions or techniques might Help others... ? Who knows ?

Oh... Next time you try to Imprint AveS with a Stamp!!! use Vaseline on the Stamping part

Cuz you know HOW AveS like to STICK to itself !!! and after reviewing your Video... I think this was part of your Problem... I Loved the technique BTW !!! but I could see AveS being pulled away from the model..... understandably.... being this THIN.... I am sure it could not be prevented much... but maybe with some Vaseline to help the stamp break free ? Just an Idea.... !!!

I keep mentioning Vaseline cuz.. in my Scout Figures... I used to put it on the two mating parts and after my New piece had dried; I could Pry it off easily.... and have perfect mating surfaces...

Just food for thoughts... for the AveS luver in you !!!

Norm: I suspect that most model builders avoid models like this one due to the textures on the surface and how hard it is to remove seam lines from them.

My solution works on Aves properties, and how it sticks to the material. I don't want to type it up, it will take too long. I just want to let you know that I am out of testing with it and into actually filling seams!!

Here is the castle video as promised!!

Nagoya Castle: Almost done!
