The adversaries face off....

good to hear your getting more time into the builds now ,, the trees are coming along very nice . !
do you have any micro files ? those do pretty good on seams around details and grooves
just an idea.

Rocketsilo:

I do have some micro files and use them quite a bit. In fact my next quick tip video is about model tools.

Well I experimented with the trees a bit tonight and here is a sneak peak:

I will post more about it later tomorrow. That particular tree was covered in parsley flakes just 15 minutes ago.

Hey Grendels the trees look great im looking foward to the next vid on the trees and the toolskeep up the great work. :)

Phil

Maybe check what ModelMedic did for his Video on Modeling tools! Before you do another one...

Maybe so they complement each other? Just an idea!

Keep up the good work!

Cant wait to see more! That trees looks really good. I remember my attemps to build trees. They totally failed. Now I catch my errors.

Well here is the new update:

Modeling trees an update

I do show how I fixed the trees and compare them to a few different ones I bought off of scenic express.

Thank you Panzerman75, Norm, Patrick, TRM, and Chiefpettyofficer for the wonderful comments.

MilitaryAircraft101: No the whole thing doesn't have to be covered in trees, but there should be quite a few near the castle. So I probably have enough of them now with the ones I purchased and the ones that I have made.

Speaking of the castle, I am getting started on that today. The review video will be posted later tonight or tomorrow. I can't tie up my bandwidth that much at the moment to upload it.

Godzilla needs primer, only a little bit of details left on him

Gidrah is driving me bonkers, I think I have builders block. I look at it and my reaction is to just walk away. The seams are driving me nuts. I will get them, it will just take time and I have to let it sit for a bit.

From a modeler to another! What's up with those seams? Can you show us what seems to be a seam
Problem!! No punt intended! BTW

Maybe we can offer a different look on things? I hate to see you so.... Crazy about this ! It must be serious!

Anyway! Loved your last Video! Still can't believe the quality of the image, do you compress your uploads ? To keep the quality while keeping the file size under 2 gig?

Sorry if I stray away from you post....

Excellent solution on the trees, John.

Maybe working on the castle will help you work around what to do with Gidrah

Excellent trees, Grendels! My hands are itching wishing to star a some kind of diorama to try building such trees myself :)

Thank you all for the comments. I am happy with how the trees look now. The clump foliage did the trick!

Now to let a few of you know where part of my frustration is coming from. I own a small business working wth college students. It is basically a small school and we help college students pass classes that they find difficult. Finals where the last two weeks, and work kept me very busy. School ended last Wednesday, but life has taken most of my time up since then. As well as the demands of others.

I have basically been going for two weeks straight without the time to sit and relax. Nor have I had the time to catch up on much needed rest. Tomorrow is Sunday a day of rest and that is exactly what I am going to do is rest and get myself back where I usually am. I am turning off the phone, and not answering any difficult emails.

I may work on the castle, but that is easy work. It is much different from the other two builds. I am painting it up first and then putting it together. This will be far too difficult to paint after it is done.

The good thing about painting is you do a little and then let it sit for hours to dry. So it is perfect for a relaxing day.

Quaralane: I am sure it will. I know I can figure this one out, it will just take time. I have plenty of that before this contest is done. Especially since Godzilla is close to finished. And I really don't expect too much trouble out of the castle. ;D The diorama part will be fun and I have a good idea of how to do that in the back of my head.

Norm: Here are a few photos so you can see where I am. I have three parts to practice with. They are extras left over from the neck and the tail. The first one shows the side of the tail piece:

20110515_2.jpg

This is here so you can see the texture I am trying to achieve. This is my goal in other words.

This is my second attempt to replicate that:

20110515_3.jpg

It is getting closer but still not there. Now if I covered the entire model with that texture it would probably work, or if I used it for ridges along the top of the tail. The problem is that won't work on the legs nor the neck seams.

And this is my attempt at a texture stamp:

20110515_4.jpg

It was my first try and it isn't too bad. I think with practice I will get it. But I won't touch it until I have some rest. I get too frustrated too easily right now and I think it is best to let it sit a bit. I have the next two weeks away from work so I will get a lot done for sure.

As for the video, there is some sort of compression. My camera takes AVCHD videos, and my editor converts them to a YouTube approved format. On my video editor, I select YouTube upload and then 16:9 ratio. The editor does the rest. It does save the video as a mp4 format. The last segment was 270Mb of data and took about 40 minutes to upload. The original file size was 743 Mb of data.

John! Thanks for the info.....

As for the skin effects, I understand your frust..... But the Trials you've shown looks like Godzila skin!
You know what I mean.... Like old three bark! Rough and tough!

The 3 headed dragon skin is a lot more like snake skin! Look carefully ( once you are rested ) and you will see a pattern emerge!

I believe you could replicate this with a "diamond shaped" Stamp (Tool) "over lapping" your pattern? Maybe? And the stamping will be minimal.... They are only thin scales!!!

I will do a test on some AvS. And let you see!

The reason why I hit you like this ! I know it hurts.... Is that I don't want your dragon looking like
Godzilla ! I hope you take criticism OK? You are A tutor.... After all, You are bullet proof! Right?

Later

Norm.

Can definitely see your frustration, John.
That looks a lot easier to replicate than it likely really is.
