The adversaries face off....

What I meant was that when you will be making foot impression you can wait for the Aves to cure in the Oyumaru. You can cut Oyumaru for easier removing of Aves it will stick together after a bath in hot water.
Cheers

John,
How do you think Aves would work as a seam filler? (big project btw) BEcause my filling agent doesn't seem to be working... ???

That was my first use of Aves, as a seam filler. I used it on the Corsair I built. It works great for that. I roll it out into a very thin "snake" and apply it to the seam. Then use water to smooth it out. If you do this correctly, it will not require sanding afterwards.

I understand now!! I have already done my casting with the Oyumaru. I used plaster of paris to cast the feet. That is actually my next video which should be up in the next two or three days. I did pull it apart and stick it back together, so you are correct about that part of it.

I'm always late with replys these days, impressive seam work and godzillas belly is looking great.

Poor tenderheart bear, he never did anything to godzilla.sad thing is i still have that same care bare from when i was a kid,but i gave it a haircut. ::)

Ah!,here he comes now.

WHAT THE!.

Oh crap!

;D

Java: I thought you were not going to show us you build any more! I am NOT dissappointed that you put those pictures here. It is looking VERY good.

I have to remember that when you bring up carebears on this forum, things tend to get a bit out of hand. No worries gentlemen, I don't mind at all. (I stared it, so why would I mind.......)

For those that haven't see it yet, the last incarnation of care bears on this forum:

Now for another update! Making a mold of Godzilla's and King Gidrah's feet:

Godzilla: Casting part 1

Sorry I forgot to mention about the paper towels. Next time use a piece of styrene sheet or anything flat with smooth surface. I hope you like Oyumaru, I've recommended it as it works for me for some quick casts etc.
I know you're able to make 2 part mould as this stuff was recommended to me by a friend (ridefast). Thanks Marek.
He showed me someone who used it to make a quick mould of front bumper of a car making a 2 part mould from it.
Could you tell me if there is any difference between Plaster of Paris/ Paris Plaster and normal Plaster?
Cheers
Lukasz

By the way Bishop = Biskup. Biskup is in Polish.

Casting worked great! As I watched you press that onto the paper towel base I was thinking - oh oh.

:D Cheers mate,i forgot i should have said, that one is a 1/6 kitbash i built back last year,he's 17 inch's tall, About 7 x the size of the 1/20 scale version i've done for the contest. ;D

As I watched you press that onto the paper towel base I was thinking - oh oh.

Yeah!,but it did make some really nice molds for the feet though.

Nice work on the castings! Came out really good! Back to work....Stomp, Stomp, Stomp!!!! ;D

??? ::) ??? So ! Ok! it worked ! but I still have a problem with sticking "styrene parts" into Hot liquid medium !!!

Wouldn't that Damage the parts ? I can see it apparently did not on HIS Monsters feet but !!! Not all "plastics" are created equal !

Maybe those parts wereTough and all !!! or the Medium "not Hot enough" to do any damage to his Thick wall parts !!! I am only pondering !!! I like new stuff !!! don't get me wrong!

when he first pulled it out !!! I saw the strings or squids it did when it came out of the Hot water !!! which worried me a bit.... Reminded me of Hot Glue guns... and the mess they do !!! What is the Play time once it's OUT ??? There must be a 'WINDOW' where its OK to Push down and when to let it set ??? or is it like Paraffin wax.... once its away from the heat it hardens quickly ? and any pushing down wouldn't be wise on delicate parts !!!

I wouldn't mind 'using' some of that stuff, but only if my worries can be diminished!!!

My LHS isn't selling this very brand but a similar product that needs heating first... and can be reused ! as needed ! which could be more economical in the long run compared with RTV. but the HEATING is the part that worry's me !!! last thing I would want is to Deform a crucial model part and be left with nothing !!! (yeah I worry a lot ) LOL

Anyhow !!! I am not taking anything away from the process ! I hope ?
I find it Quick !!! for sure !!! Crisp details reproduction... and reusable ! all good qualities....

Is there a website that shows you all it's qualities and would Settles my worries ? especially about the Heating part ???

Anyway !!! Good Going on those Feet !!!

Go go Godzilla !!

Hi schweinhund227 you shouldn't have any problem with it along with a friend we used it couple of times even on small detail like for example 1-1.5mm per 3 mm and it didn't damaged them. After you take it out of the water it starts hardening as its starts cooling down. I used it to make the impression of a clear windshield of a car and it didn’t damage it in any way.
Cheers

Wouldn't 1/6 scale be 3.33 times bigger than 1/20 scale?

I am not sure how to answer this. I just went to the store and got a box of plaster. I know that this is the stuff that we used as a kid to make hand prints in school. And that it is the same thing people use to do repairs in walls. It is very cheap, but not extremely durable. It will break of not handled correctly. I would not do modeling with it, but doing ground work for a diorama would be fine. I have used it to make "rocks" for a dio before.

As for that paper towel, it came off the next time I heated up the Oyumaru. So no worries there. I figured that it would just fall off. Paper towel just falls apart if you soak it in enough water. The next segment will be up tonight or tomorrow night. You will see it there.

Thanks for the info on the two part mold, you have me thinking........

Java: Damn! :p

I wasn't worried about the parts. This stuff was warm to handle, but not so hot that I thought it would deform my parts. Yes they were thick walled, but it wasn't so hot that I was worried.

It feels like it is a modified version of the glue you use in hot glue guns. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if that is exactly what it is.

The second time I used it I put the water in a ceramic bowl, (Video up very very soon) That worked much better. It didn't stick to the sides of the bowl at all. The ceramic holds heat better so I didn't have to worry about the water cooling off too fast.

My only worries about casting a delicate part would be breaking the part as you press it into the Oyumaru. I would do a YouTube search on it. Plenty of videos out there about using this stuff. The war gaming community has been all over it for a while now.

It also doesn't harden up really fast. It takes time. I would say you have a good four or five minutes to get the object set the way you want.

Ok... done some more research... on Oyumaru !!! looks pretty wicked !!! still... I wouldn't throw in all my goodies in there... but it looks like it works Fast !!

Where do you get your Oyumaru from ? on line ? so far my 3 OLS I do buz with don't carry it !

let me know !

looking forward to your new Vid.

Norm, here are my USA sources:

http://www.ecrater.com/p/10122362/clay-mold-making-oyumaru-single

This one is the cheapest, and very fast with shipping. I don't know if they will ship overseas...

And another site

http://www.coolminiornot.com/shop/tools-and-misc/instant-mold.html

This site was suggested to me by the war gamers. It is not called Oyumaru there but instant mold.

I also found it on Ebay, but that was shipping from Japan, and I didn't want to wait that long for it to get here. Just search for Oyumaru.

The only thing I would use this for is small easy things. I don't think I would use it for something like your speeder bike riders.

Java: Not that worried about the hijack. Any thread with Care bears will do that......

Well here is the new video, the last part of the casting. The second time around went very well for King Gidrah's feet!

Godzilla: Casting part 2

John

PS: I messed up the video! but it still works. One of those things that happens when you are working far too much.

Hey Grendels, nice job on the feet !, Video looks fine to me buddy ..good job :)

Chris.
