The adversaries face off....

Got to love the re-usable factor in that stuff, John. That definitely beats my silicone molds of a number of things

Have you made a decision on using the castle yet? I would imagine it would give a great sense of scale. the build looks like it is moving along well. can't wait to see them in some paint. i am also rooting for Mothra to make an apperance. Godzilla was always at his best when outnumbered!!

Quaralane: I have to agree. Silicon molds are one reason why I have not done casting up to this point.

Noc5659: I haven't done any work on this in the last week. I have been very very busy with work, putting in 10 hour days. This stops on Wednesday and I will get back into it then. I ordered the DVD of when these two first met and it came in on Saturday. Once I give it a watch, I will know more about the castle.

But until that time, here is the first video on making trees for a diorama:

Trees part 1

Hi Grendels, i watched your vid this morning ,but had to rush off and didnt get to comment !!.
I like the idea for the trees ,its something I do like to see ,a lot of people have their own ways of making them ,but making them look good is an art in its self !, I think you pulled it off brilliantly buddy :), Looking forward to more .

Chris.

Cool vid John - looks like a great one for the TnT section! Gonna watch this in full tomorrow as I 'work'- too much competition for the laptop tonight. LOL.

Cool trees John. How big are the 350 scale aircraft, I'm thinking I might build a battle diorama, kinda like a modern battle of the coral sea, with an aircraft carrier (price permitting..)

Thank you Chris, Quaralane, TRM and Tanker 52.

Scott: Thanks for posting that in the DYI section, part two will be up late tonight!

MilitaryAircraft: At this scale, an f-14 is two inches long or 5.5 cm. But I don't know if I am going to use them. I might use a F-104 (same size as the f-14) that I have from a different model. The problem is I only have one of them, and I will have to cast up a few duplicates. This will require a two part mold and I have never done anything like that. So, it will all depend upon how much time I have free for this. The aircraft are near the end of the build, so I can decide about that then.

Thanks Panzerman75!

Well here is the next segment on the trees:

trees part 2

I am done with work and back to working on Gidrah. Godzilla needs a bit of detailing and I can send him to primer!!

I agree about brushing for texture on the trees.

And they're looking pretty good. The parsley's a nice way to go.

And you're right about those pre-mades. They look terrible

Those trees are looking good.

Have you ever thought about dipping the armatures in that air drying liquid plastic/runner stuff? They sell it at places like NAPA to dip your tool handles in and it drys to a rubber like handle cover. It seems like an ideal solution but I've never done it.

So ! all good but !

I think all this Dio needs now is a Little Nuke !!! in scale with all those Small Trees !!! LOL

LOL

All jokes aside... I enjoyed the Demo part 2... as soon as I saw the Big Jug of Parsley !!! I said YES !

the trees will look great next to your Monsters...

Way to go !

Norm

OUT !

The trees you are doing look way better than the bought ones you have. The good thing about trees is they can be really bare or really bushy. Its all down too the season. If they are sparse then its autumn, just bake some of the parsley(should turn it brown) and stick it around the base.

Thanks for another good update.

Well after Godzilla is done Fighting.... there won't be much parsley left on those branches.... LOL

Can't wait for your next movie !!!

Chop chop !!

Life has been getting in the way of working on this dio, but that comes to an end very soon. (Not my life, but work is now slowing down to the point where I don't have to worry about it for a few weeks.)

I am making a video of the castle today, and I am going to rework a few of these trees. Over the last week I have been looking at trees and some trees do look quite a bit like these. So a few will stay as they are. I have also bought a few higher quality trees than those I showed before. They will also appear in the last tree segment.

Also I finally decided that I am not going to try and match a scene from the movie. I just want to let my imagination go with it......

Shutterace: I have some of that liquid rubber in the garage. I didn't think about using it, but I do like how these came out. (Other than the parsley for the leaves. And that isn't all that bad.) When you look at them they have the same texture that real trees do with their bark. I was trying to keep that twisted barky look to the trees. The liquid rubber would have removed this. As well as been really hard to paint.

I will get the next update done soon! King Gidrah's seams are kicking me, not as easy as I thought. I am on my third trial with different techniques. Each attempt is getting closer and closer. It is only a matter of time until I get them right.
