I've been masking with green frog tape but I'm thinking that there must be better stuff out there so I'm looking for suggestions from the community on what they use. The frog tape is a little thick and I've had trouble with it sealing well on the edges.

There are three different green frog colors (yeah, I know, bad marketing) but the yellow is less tacky than the green or blue. I use it for many things, particularly like the 4-inch version, it really helps prevent overspray.

For anything "sensitive" I still overpay and use Tamiya tape, I do think it is the best. Most commercial mask makers "Kit Masx" or "1manarmy" or "Galaxy" all use it.

Try some auto pinstriping tape it will give you the line and seal you need, it bends and shapes better, then you can mask the rest of the body off of that.

Good call! One major issue with the Tamiya tape is that it does not bend, it can be a real problem when masking curves.
Give it a go brother it opens an all new world. Im a kiss painter when it comes to models, but used it religiously on motorcycles we built.

Never considered it for a moment. Do you have a recommended supplier?

Sorry no i get some from a friend that is an auto painter i will check with him. I would think a local auto store would have some, what quality i dont know, but the best bet would be an online search for a high quality pin stripe tape supplier. An 1/8 wide roll might be 6 or 8 bucks max and would do many model cars.

I have a 2 mm roll of Tamiya for curves and I don't really care for it I find it's hard to keep down and the curves need to be subtle they can't be sharp it just won't hold. On the occasions I did get it to hold it ended up seeping into the edges. I just dropped a 36 yard roll each of 1/4 in, 1/16 in, and 1/24th inch width Custom K ultimate curve management tape into my Amazon cart. They're kind of pricey so I have to wait until I get an approval from the budget manager (My wife) before I can click buy.
I appreciate everyone's suggestions. They're very helpful.

I think this is intended to actually be the stripe itself not a mask. Most pinstripes are paint, but I'm thinking this would work as long as the adhesive is not too powerful.

Is it what you mean?

No, this stuff.

I bought "mt KAMOI PAPER WASHI Adhesive tape" online. Sometimes referred to as Kabuki tape. It comes in multiple colors, usually ten rolls to the box. Amazon has it for $15 for a box. But you can find it for cheaper. I used Tamiya until about ten years ago. I won't live long enough to use the two boxes I bought. This is a lot cheaper than Tamiya. But acts, smells, tastes just like the venerable Tamiya, if you don't mind the colors.
At the price it is worth a try.

If you go the automotive fine-line (pinstripe) tape route , put the roll in a baggie and in a bowl of warm water before you apply it. It bends even easier this way.

It can be a bit thick, and, therefore, more conducive to paint ridge buildup, so make sure you spray from the tape side to minimize.

Great tips, thank you.

Mostly use Tamiya and had no problems. More expensive but I think worth it. Pantherman
