I started this project out by making the bucks for the canopy
and cockpit to be vacuum formed.

001.jpg

I did have a pretty good gap issue with the canopy sitting down
on the hull.
003.jpg

So I put some aluminum foil down and loaded up the bottom of
the canopy buck with clay and pressed it out to fill the gap, the
aluminum foil would allow me to remove the canopy later.

Trimming off the clay.....

007.jpg

Ok Here is the vacuum forming of the top half of the cockpit module,
I formed it twice to have a bottom also.
035.jpg

Here is the forming of the canopy which I used later to make a 2 part
mold so I could have it to make more in the future if I wanted.
006-1.jpg

MORE TO COME......

Ok Guys next i drilled out some holes to start dremeling out the windows
in the canopy.
010-1.jpg

This picture shows the canopy finished, if you notice the sides and
the rear of the cockpit module have been cut away. I did that to
get rid of the "Soft edge" forming can leave as the SS model has
real sharp sides. I made the overall buck for the cockpit module
bigger so I could cut away and have the sharpness where I needed
it, for example at the front where there is a curve and at the rear.
I went back and cut fresh styrene to get crisp sides and a rear bulkhead
the pics will show....

I've always wanted to try something like this. You're off to I great start and I'll be keeping my eye on this one.

Thanks Splashcoat ;D I am well into this project.....I am going to
keep posting updates until I get where I am currently at with
the build.

Guys gonna throw up some pics of the two part mold I made for the canopy,
it was my 1st molding and casting....Jeeezz i wish i could have ended up doing
something easier, I had a good friend help me out I must have sent him 200
text messages that day! LOL I did manage to chunk out a piece of the canopy
at the front, but that was me being a little rough with it getting it out of the rubber
a little apoxie sculpt fixed that perfect.

Next I attached the resin canopy to the cockpit module,
you can see in the pic the chunk i broke out of the canopy
at the front has been fixed.
015-2.jpg

I drilled a hole on the bottom side so I could get
started opening up the area for the tub to fit.
016-2.jpg

Here is the bottom side dremeled out and then i was ready
to make the tub and get it detailed.
018.jpg

But first I scribed the panel lines on the top of the hull,
thats why I put the canopy on first so I could use it
for location in helping mark out the panel lines.
020.jpg

021-1.jpg

Ok guys to get the tub i just went a re-vacuum formed the canopy
again since it's profile fits the cut out on the underside
anyway.
005-2.jpg
006-2.jpg
007-2.jpg

It did end up being a little long so I had to cut off the back shorten
the tub and add back the rear of the tub. In the end it fit perfect I added
a little evergreen strip to have some gluing surface and it was done minus the
detailing.

005-3.jpg

Next I began working on the rear bulkhead......I trimmed
off all the wonkyness left from forming.

In This pic you can see the flash i cut from
the hull, but i didn't throw it away instead i
used it to begin to dial in a template.

Once I had that worked out I bean fitting the lower half of the
cockpit module. I made it fit in between the the sides which took
a fair amount of sanding and fitting!!!
003-3.jpg
004-3.jpg

Evergreen strip on the sides and rear to glue it down to
when the time came.
005-3.jpg
006-3.jpg

Next after i knew the bottom was going to fit I removed it
and scribed the panel lines. The small part in black at the rear
was another buck i made and vacuum formed, i think it might be
the concussion launcher or bomb bay not sure?
018-1.jpg

With all that done and fitting I went ahead and started detailing the tub.....
just gone throw up the pics.....I did use the seat from the Mk2 viper i think?

No genius over here John.....but thanks! ;D

Ok Guys next I started on the main construction on the hull,
I decided after some failure at building a vacuum plug to just
build it up out of some thick 2.5mil HIPS. It was basically
just measure off the little F-toys model and scale it up 6xs bigger,
then cut templates and cut plastic and glue.

Here is the template for the top hull in the red poster board,
you can see the plastic cut out next to it.
154794_10200127967711699_1043545490_n.jpg

You can see the reference lines where I needed the sides to angle down,
I just carefully scored them enough to allow the plastic to break open, but
not crack off. When I had the right angles i filled the open seems with super glue
and gave it a shot of kicker. In this pic the rear clip has been dremeled off to make the rear deck.
181835_10200127967871703_901405244_n.jpg

Here is the rear deck in place.....with the same on going theme cutting and gluing.
182313_10200127968351715_1656313071_n.jpg

Here is a side panel part cut from the plastic.....it gets repeated on the other side
obviously.
227192_10200127969151735_101106527_n.jpg

With the sides in place I started working around the back side.
224862_10200127970351765_1454556900_n.jpg

Next I had a decision to make start the lower half of the hull and build up,
or keep working down from what I had? Something inside said "Keep working
down so i did.
179593_10200127970751775_486087634_n.jpg

This is the lower hull part and it just glues to underneath so it has no sides
44417_10200127970471768_1082708263_n.jpg

Here it is on the bottom...
380573_10200127971071783_784317901_n.jpg

Next the wing pylons....;)

Here are the wings I made a top and bottom so they could be
hollow to run wires through, and also have a support strut run
through both sides.
029-2.jpg

I made the wings 10mm longer then they needed to be
so I could have some good meat going into the main
hull. It's one of those situations where you mark and
measure 10x's before you cut!

281640_10200132092614819_1369791245_n.jpg

Both wings installed and glued in place....with wooden support
that runs through both....cockpit just mocked in not fitted yet.

That's way to Kind Scott thank you.....my secret is I am
more tenacious then talented to be honest! LOL If I have
to do it 20x's to get it right then I am willing to do it 20x's
thankfully most stuff doesn't take that long now a days.......
but trust me I paid my dues i had those days!!!! LOL And
sometimes I still have them and that's the truth!

This update will bring us to where i am at right now.
The little model has these wing supports 2 on the top
and 2 on the bottom, so I looked around .....plenty
resin but damn no rubber!!Oh well I went ahead and
just built the 4 of then out of plastic.....

001-2.jpg

003-4.jpg

Bottom......
002-2.jpg

This part is just a detail plate I cut from a old tank kit,
to fit on the end of the rear hull.
004-4.jpg

Then i built the shield generator thingy.....
that sits up on the deck area and that's it
that's currently where I am at, any other
progression will be current. :)

And that is we're the expertise part comes from my friend. No other way to get that part.

That is just awesome. What a joy to look through, if this is possible to make into a kit I would love to get my grubby mits on one!

Thanks John .....no plans for a kit right now.

I got some more work done today....I cut out some recessed areas
on the top hull and did a little detailing.

Started out making a template because I wasn't smart enough to
build these areas before I went along with the hull construction! LOL
001-3.jpg

I wanted to frame out the cut outs to keep them clean,it will look
great once it's got a coat of primer. I am not one to use that
putty stuff it melts plastic and shrinks to much. So I just fill everything
with super glue and hit it with kicker.Since I am not working around
existing detail I don't worry about the sanding like u would on a kit.
002-3.jpg
003-5.jpg

I left it just a little bit high so I could sand it in clean....
004-5.jpg
005-5.jpg

Template for bottom ......
006-5.jpg

Frame work in..... with some detailing the same thing went on
with the box in front but I used some evergreen plastic there
to make it look like vents in the closed position.
008-4.jpg
009-3.jpg

Vents marked out and drilled ready for the dremel tool,
I used the evergreen plastic here as well.
