Studio Scale Y-wing with panels

Excellent scratch building. I'm wondering if your kitting this since you've poured some molds. Just wondering.

Yea I only did a mold for the canopy because I needed the practice,
and if I had to make another at some point I didn't want to have to.
I was possibly thinking about making the concept speeder that had the Y-wing
body a kit though......possibly....? ;D

Awesome work, I just have a quick question about the cutter that you have in the pics. Does that leave a decent edge or do you have to cut longer and then sand it to length? I was thinking of picking one up but I thought that it would more or less smash the edges.
Thanks, can't wait to see more.

Hey Scott did u mean the old Kit I was working on
to get more accurate? I have to pick that one back
up again it's on a shelf in a box right now, funny I
took it out the other day I almost started on it again. ;D

Thanks Steve I got that cutter from Micro Mark......
no it cuts excellent with nice edges. It cuts on different
angles great for Evergreen strip thin metal, never tried
it on balsa wood although I think it would cut that fine
as well. Order an extra blade if you get one although I
haven't changed mine out yet.....you never know when
they discontinue stuff!

Thanks for the kind words guys......should have another update
tomorrow.

Very cool. Sci-Fi and Armor modeling combined! My two favorite genres. Great work there. Looking forward to seeing more. Sure wish a 1/48th Fine Molds kit would be introduced. The Y-wing is a rugged yet graceful craft. A favorite for sure. Here are some images I have found and have had on my computer for a while now.

Thanks guys..... ;D

Update on droid socket, maintenance access area, engine fitting
one side.

The droid parts came from a real space model kit that
has about 3 or 4 rockets in it. it was a choice between
two heads I chose the the one that had some detail on
it already. I wasn't to bothered that it didn't have the typical
R2 dome in fact I liked it better it didn't.

Wing fitting.....
A piece of plywood runs all the way through........
And a mock up of the wings and engines.

I marked off the excess part of the rocket body to be dremeled away.

Then it was just measure and try to keep things straight......one note though
I am mounting the Saturn V parts on their center line or seam. I think on the SS
version they are mounted above the center line or it looks that way to me? I can't
be bothered with that, I prefer to use the center line if gives you so much more
reference when trying to get them straight and even. When I do a SS Y-wing with
the exposed detail I will fit them like that....not for this bird though. It's a super
tight friction fit going into the rocket body and it's very strong.....bight I still might
reinforce it, if I do it will be total overkill, as the plywood is 6mm thick!

Ok this bird is really needing a mount it's getting big fast with the engines
on it! Pretty self explanatory really.....I used some pan head bolts and wing
nuts, to attach the mount to the support beam. The center hole will allow me
to run the wiring from the engines down the mount and into the base.

Looks good, and she is going to be large.

Are those boosters from the old 1/96th kit?
