Hello everyone!
As I've promised, today I want to show you, guys, my second entry for the BSC - now in the Sci-fi category.
And it will be... (drums playing)...

The "Hammerhead"-class cruiser from the Star Wars Era of the Old Republick! 8)

yeah, this one:

However, I must worn you in the very beginning:
I don't intend to make this precise build as accurate as possible. I'm going to give myself a great freedom and some artistic license to make it my vision of this vehicle ;)

The project is going to be 100% scratchbuilt.
As a basement I'm using the Kazon fighter from Star Trek by Revell (same design idea with a hammerhead vertical nose - actually it was when I've got this kit when I thought about why not rebuilding it into a famous ship from one of my favorite games of all times)

I've also visited a hobby shop today, and got some kits for greebles (the srange spherical something from Bandai and to very nicely detailed 1/72 German tigers by Zvezda ) + when it comes to detailing I'll add t this kits tons of styrene parts and pieces from my stash.

As this evenings start, I've taken the tube I'm going to use as a base-body for the entire ship and attached the bottom with the screw-nuts (those santhechnical tubes would never hold anything glued to them whenever glue is used, so I've decided to go the most reliable way). I've also wired the bottom part with a power connector, as I'm going of coarse to add lighting to this model.

Well, thats it for now. I'm planning to make another update in the nearest future, as I really have to work fast on this one: I've got tons of things to do on it, and a very limited time.
Hope you'd enjoy this build, guys ;)
Cheers!

Wow Sol this is ganna be great! What an undertaking, I'm definitely on board for this ride. Is it going to be 1/350 scale? Or just whatever it ends up being lol

Lol, I guess that more like the second option :D
However, since this is a kind of "refit" hammerhead, I might be able easyly to say, that it has been made longer (whider, higher, shorter e.t.c) during the upgrade, to fit it into some common scale (most likely 1/670 - like for ex. the revell's Star Trek Voyager (the original Endar Spire was actually a pretty big ship)
Anyway, I would be able to answer for shure a bit latter ;D
And welcome to the build, mate, nice to have You as a viewer! ;)

I like the direction this is taking Sol. Looks like a really cool ship and I'm certainly interested in your build.

Great idea Sol, I think I've heard you talk about this before, or was that someone else?

Anyway can't wait to see where you take us with this Sol. Should be a fun build.

I'm on-board with everyone else, so far. This should be good.
Yeah, was it you that asked about a ship like this sometime in the last year?
There were two possible variants, and I think I liked this version best. ;D ;D
It'll be great to see how you work her into shape!

Sol
I think every thing i wanted to say has already been said by the guys 8)

I just have to say "bookmarked" ;D

good luck buddy

Gag

MJ those Old Republic trailers are great. Only wish they made the last few SW movies with the same intensity. And yeah, some of the designs in the ships are cool.

Hi, guys!
Thank you everyone for the great comments!

And you remember correctly, Igard & Mike, that was me bringing up the talk about this ship back when I've been working on the AAT. We've been discussing that this build was like up to the new run of the Episode I in 3D-theatres, and I answered that many of my modeling projects draw creativity from what I'm currently watching/reading/playing. There is still a promised Mass Effect models on my to-do-list we've talked about that time (however this is only if those b**tards from BioWare give us a normal ending in their DLC this summer ;) ;) ;D )

John, those clips from TOR are great indeed. Especially the one which is going first (but was released last - wasn't it Lucas himself btw deciding in what order to release those clips??? ;D ;D) It is like all what we love SW for is concentrated in 5 minutes!

Bizarre, exactly - this project is ectually one big kitbash as it is.

Well, for the update I have some good and bad news as it was recently with my post over the "First Mission" dio topic. And like the last time, I'll begin with the bad one .
I've decided to give up lighting on this model. The fact is that for the specific of my building it (putting parts over and over until I receive a desired look, and not even knowing for myself of what I'll get in the end - only in the very basic shapes) planning all the wiring, LED positioning and staff (the wiring especially) becomes a hell. So, I've realized for myself, that
1- If I go ahead with the lighting I'll never finish this cruiser in time for the contest's deadline
2- I anyway do switch my lighted models on only when I'm taking pics of them and rarely show to the interested guests, my gf, parents e.t.c. That's quite a very little number of times to fall off the contest for them
So, I've decided to skip the lighting. I realize, that, for a sci-fi model especially, that immediately reduces the coolness of the build. However, I'll try my best to compensate it with mind-blowing detalisation work all over the hull, and a cool stand - maximum I can go to stay within the sci-fi cat. and not be moved into the diorama one ;)

The good news are simple - I've made some progress!! ;D
The main and rear part of the ships body start getting their shape. As you can see this is very different from the CG model, but I've tried to keep the initial sense of many hull flows.

Next stop are the engines. I want first to deal with all the basic shapes - and then go curing gaps and superdetailing.

Looking good Sol. Don't worry too much about the lights, I almost didn't bother either. The pipe going through is handy to support the model isn't it!

Looking good Sol. I'll be honest, she still looks like that Kazon ship to me, but I'm sure that'll change soon. 8)
