Roadblock defence Sd.kfz. 251/22

Outstanding progress!! Interior is spot on as the town is all coming together....keep this going!! ;)

Thanks for the comments guys

Bit of a frustrating week with the modelling, not had much chance all week because of work and then everything I painted on Saturday went wrong. I spent ages painting the hornet heads only for the base acrylic coat to start peeling off and then I got the uniform colours completely wrong so had to strip them as well!

Still today's been more succesful, here's the progress.

Did another layer of oils on the halftrack, quite a subtle difference but heres some pictures

Then spent time creating the interior of the grocers, made a floor and display counter from balsa, painted up the interior and added the details including the old shopkeeper.

Not to sure about the building render, the texture is great, but still pondering whether the colours are authentic, although I do like the effect. If any one has any input all comments would be appreciated. Maybe it could do with a wash to tone it down, or needs a solid colour with a bit of dry brushing?
Then finally today I got the colours right on the uniforms. I am trying to replicate the late war 'splinter' and 'tan and water' camo patterns, and mixing them up a bit to add interest.

Its quite a lengthy painting process, but a really enjoyable one.
Still not happy with the hornet heads, can;t decide whether I will get a better result with acrylics or oils but hopefully next time I post I will have some progress to show.

As always thanks for looking and any comments welcome

i think your right about the speckle shop i think it looks wrong, While it is cool mabe a color over it may bring it into the scene more???

Figs look great too

Between your work and Spud's , I'm certainly going to try my hand at WWII era pieces in a diorama. Top notch work !

Thanks for the comments guys

Spud I think you are right, I'm going to paint over the render it doesn't look right, thanks for the input

Tbadger, definitely give it the ww2 diorama a go, you can let your creativity go wild!

Hi guys

Hope you're all having fun with your projects.

This week have started on the final building and decided to go for a sandstone building, this has been created with a foamboard base and then some sticky backed foam cut to represent the stones. I know it looks wrong in green but it'll soon be painted!

Also I painted over the render on the grocers and weathered it, still more work to go but getting there

20120505_180655.jpg

I've also painted the first oil layer of skin tone on the hornet heads, still a few layers to go yet, but they are taking shape
20120505_173709.jpg

I painted the rest of the german figures bodies, these are Dragon Gen2 figures and the detail is excellent, and there is lots of kit to go on them yet.

Also made a strat on the car, first airbrushing the interior and then masking it up and spraying the outside with a final coat of clear to make it shine before painting in the chrome details.
I think I am going to give it a light weathering with oils to make it look dusty

Hi Guys, back again with some more progress

Been doing some more work on the grocers, I wanted a sign a bit different than the others so I found some dense card knocking around and with a sharp scalpel cut the store owners name letter by letter, painted them up and fixed them on
20120506_092641.jpg

20120506_095537.jpg

I also painted, washed and dry brushed the stone building and added windows & doors
20120507_155246.jpg

20120507_155301.jpg

The whole street is begining to take shape now, there are the rooves to do but I will wait until they are all together to add these. Also I will be adding more details to liven it up
20120507_155329.jpg

The car was looking to clean for a German winter scene so I used oils to creat rain streaks and dirty it up a bit
20120507_154536.jpg

20120507_154548.jpg

20120507_154605.jpg

Now all the oils have dried on the halftrack I think the interior weathering is looking complete so I have moved back to building it up.

There are some welds mising on the front of the vehicle so I masked off the area and then spread a thin layer of vallejo filler in the gaps and then with a scalpel created the weld look.
20120506_150853.jpg

Once I stuck the halftrack body together I spent the rest of the time adding the small details, including moving the radio from the front of the cab to the rear of the vehicle and using wire to plumb it in.

20120507_154730.jpg

20120507_154717.jpg

There is still more details to add yet, I really want this to look 'lived in' so plenty of debris to be spread around yet!
Lastly for now I built up the tracks and fitted them. Not sure how I am going to get around painting the tracks once the side panels are fitted, but I'm sure I'll work it out.

As always thanks for looking and see you again soon

Hi Guys, back again with a weekly update.

After finally finishing the interior I masked up the halftrack and started spraying the camo with vallejo acrylics
20120510_195145.jpg

20120510_195156.jpg

20120510_195227.jpg

After painting in the details, chipping with acrylics and a coat of clear I did a panel line wash with oils then created rain streaking with more oils

20120513_161058.jpg

20120513_161048.jpg

20120513_161119.jpg

The first few pictures have come out a bit dark, the actual final colour looks more faded, like in the last picture.
I have also finished detailing the heads, and couldn't resist fixing one on to see the whole effect
20120513_161200.jpg

Whilst the oils are drying I moved onto the base again.
I wanted to create a tiled roof so found some card and marked out the sizes on it. I then cut 90% of the way through the vertical line leaving the top bit attached still.
20120513_135625.jpg

Then I cut the horizontal strips and when fixing them overlapped the layers
20120513_142711.jpg

I also cut black card stock for the outside to finish it all off
20120513_160707.jpg

20120513_160652.jpg

20120513_160717.jpg

...and started adding the finishing details to the building, painting and weathering the roof, adding a gutter and down pipe (from a cut down drinking straw and spare sprue), sticking in the interior details, etc...

Its all coming together quite quickly now, should be finishing soon. I already have a diorama in mind for a second competition entry!

Thanks for looking

Thanks for the great comments guys

Well i've wrapped this one up today, i'm all finished!

I've done so many details this week its hard to remember, but I've finished off all the roofes with flat and corrugated card tiles, added drainpipes, dirt in the gutter, aded all the accessories to the figures (including the heads), added thick pigment dirt to the running gear, amongst everything else!

Heres the halftrack in detail with the figures added
