Good day All, finally the time has arrived!!!

I am entering a scratch built diorama base showing the Dragon Sd.kfz. 251/22 waiting behind a roadblock in a West German town azround February / March 1945. The roadblock will feature a Citroen Traction and plenty of figures busy setting up a defence.

Good luck to all competitors, this is gonna be great fun

Love this version of the 251, I'll be following for sure! Good Luck :D

Awesome headline on the paper by the way!! ;D

Thanks Eric, That's the British press for you!!!

Roman, I think it will be mainly OOB, there's enough other work for me to do, maybe a bit of damage and plenty of stowage though!

Hi Guys
Just thought I'd share this weeks progress
I started out by roughing out the base, this will be a West German town around Feb / March 1945. I plan to put a narrow cobbled street on a slope with a roadblock containing the Citroen Traction (partly burnt out) and other junk with a large archway at the back and buildings down both sides. The halftrack will be aiming over the roadblock whilst the crew and other soldiers are readying for an attack.
I will add plenty of detail in the buildings to bring this to life.

I cut a piece of board to fit and then fixed some board on a slant as my base, the card board is just an indication of the building height and placement.

Most of the week has been spent putting together the halftrack.
As I usually find with Dragon kits the quality is excellent, with lots of extras in the box including a turned aluminium barrel, a small etch fret, 5 figures (which I will not use on this build), 2 discarded jackets, aluminium and plastic shells and shell boxes and storage tubes, loads of decals including markings for the cases and 2 different pattern full sets of tracks! All for £32 including delivery!!!

The other thing that I usually find is that there are some faults with the instructions, particularly in this case with the Pak 40. There are a few issues with no marking points throughout but the biggest issue was with mating the gun with the vehicle mount as there were 2 female pins which would have left the gun really high and unsupported. After a bit of pondering I cut both off and it all fits together perfectly. I guess that part of the modellers art is working these things out!

I have not stuck the interior together yet so I can paint and weather lots of details with no obstruction.

I can leave this aside now and move forward with the base.

I hope everyone is having as much fun building as I am!

Great progress this week! this is shaping up into a really Kool little Dio!! 8) Keep up the great work! :D

Thanks Eric, I've been getting so much done because of Easter I thought I'd post some more!

I've moved on to the groundwork for a while. I've cut the slope to fit the buildings and then cut some foam board to fit and spent a few hours embossing the foam board with cobbles. Before I stuck ths to the base I put a piece of card underneath the middle to make a camber in the street.

I've cut the building fronts from foam board and this picture gives an idea of the layout

I've started the first building by marking out and scoring the design, then embossing more bricks. The timber parts, shutters and door are cut from plastic card, scored to represent wood grain and then painted, washed and weathered with acrylics.

love it !

this will look great when it all comes together ;D

Thanks for the comments Guys

I'm really loving this Easter break, I'm getting tons of modelling done!

I've done another building today, this time a bit of a garage/workshop frontage.

I used the same techniques as I used for the previous building, with a base of foamboard, which i embossed a few bricks into. I left a bit of the layer of card on the foam at the top and bottom and using a ruler I used these as depth guides to spread wall filler over it, after masking the bricked areas.

Obviously when I pulled off the mask I was left with bricks underneath, which gives the effect of a bit of decay.

I then painted and washed it and using a stencil painted on the proprieters name
I made some gates from sheet plastic, more painting and weathering and used dry rub transfers on the gates to add more detail
