Question, what is a polishing stick used for?

Is it like the nail file sanders I can get at the beauty supply , but with a different grit?
or something specific to the hobby?

A polishing stick is for fingernails. This has four grits. One on each end, and on both sides. This is for refining rough nails, but it can be used carefully for polishing small things. I don't recommend it for paint. There are polishing papers, and polishes for that.

I have used polishing sticks, but only before paint, I have never used one after paint. They have a pretty fine grit, but I couldn't tell you what exactly that is, it is over 600 though.

You can polish paint with them, Alclad II or Buffable MM Metalizers can be polished using the super fine polishing sticks form getting into tight places, like wing roots on a natural metal finish aircraft etc.

"Polishing sticks" can also be -

a) bonded glass fibre, a 100mm long 4mm dia. shank with a shaped end, say point, wedge or square
b) felt or chamois coated stick

both these a chap I work with has as he used to be a jeweller 8)
