I know of what you speak.
While standing on a ridge in the Langtang Himals, like a small plane and seemingly without flapping its wings, one soared up and away from below me. It happened so fast yet seemed an eternity.
And it was gone.
February, 1982.
How fortunate we are!
Whenever I've mentioned that event people always ask "Did you get a picture?" I didn't even think about trying until it was gone but I'm glad I didn't. I got to enjoy the moment.

I got to enjoy the moment.
So true.
And the memory is yours.

Sometimes I look at the younger generations, and I think of my grandfather who lived to be 99.
Born in the 19th century, he could reminisce about days long gone... He had a trained memory, something sorely lacking today, a bit of humanity given up to technology. He could describe every detail of the harnesses and 'attelage' of his youth, or the post and beam joints of barns he had helped build.

When shown something new, he examined it and brought all of his knowledge and experience to bear, not relying on an algorithm or 'likes' to come to an understanding and an opinion of his own.

Ron2's and your experiences remind me of the 2013 remake of the Secret Life of Walter Mitty (with Ben Stiller and Sean Penn).
There is a scene near the end of the movie when Sean Penn has been patiently waiting to photograph an elusive snow leopard.
That scene made me reflect on how much I was missing because I was habitually behind the lens and not enjoying the moment. Always trying to get the perfect shot.
Since then I have taken significantly fewer photos and spend much more time just enjoying the moment.

For many years my friend and I backpacked throughout the Sierra Nevadas in California. I always had a camera, my friend never did. One time I asked him why, he pointed to his temple and said " it's all up here".
