Hello Modelers!

I am trying to start on two vintage Lunar Models resin Lost in Space Robot kits that I might build simultaneously. The picture below is from somebody else's build but these are the two kits. One is the classic B9 robot, the other is from the rather risqué Innovation Comics Lost in Space series from the early '90s. I've had them for decades and I'm planning the builds.

Here's where I need your opinion. The Innovation robot….he seems to be, ahem, "anatomically correct". Maybe a little too anatomically correct for me. The more I think about it, I'm sure they designed it like that on purpose as those comics were not for kids and had sexual elements throughout. I like the robot, but I do NOT like that part of the design. I'm convinced they did it on purpose and am a little disappointed.

Ok, here's the question:

1. Should I perform a little Dremel tool surgery on him? (Sounds painful, I know!)
2. Should I build it as-is because I'm being ridiculous and I'd be ruining a rare kit?

Modify? Leave stock?

To make it a little less controversial and more kid friendly, I might saw off the front and back of the part between the legs (they're the same on each side) and glue them to the outside l hip joints. They would look good there and it seems that's where they belong, anyway! The piece attached to the bottom (It's hanging down, get it?) will be omitted and that whole part will be made smaller and more square to look like a gear box.

A few reasons to not do it:

1. I will be kicking up a lot of toxic resin dust. I'd have to do this outside.

2. I'll be changing the robot from its original design.

A few reasons to do it:

1. It will look cooler.
2. Less embarrassing.

I'm on the fence! I need a poll or something, lol!

It's your model, if it bothers you remove it. I don't see whether the kit is rare has anything to do with it. I'm also not above using historically incorrect paints etc if an idea strikes me. At the end of the day this is your art, your expression and it should reflect you.

Rule no 1

It's yours, do with it as you wish... Paint it blue with yellow spots, stick the willy on the head, swap the arms and legs over. Go mad!
Don't be constrained by others. Or the fact it's rare. By building the thing you've destroyed any value in it anyway, regardless of how you do it.

WELL I say leave it as it is as I WATCHED lost in space a lot when i was young ive never seen this robot an to me it is a rear one an different

I appreciate your opinions, everybody, thank you!

This reminds me of Joel Schumacher putting nipples on the batsuit in "Batman Forever". Bob Kane stated he did not know why he did that.

I think the robot is 90% interesting and cool looking. I'll do what I can to make it look good.

Now….to just find the energy to work on it!!
